(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's been a great week so far for team Ireland, a medal won every day since Monday.
Skibbereen rowers in final tomorrow Friday will hopefully keep it going.

Replying To eoinog:  "I will admit to knowing very little about boxing but the commentators, the analysis in the studio and the boxer herself all alluded to the fact that it was very marginal and they all seem to accept that she wasn't good enough on the night. That's all I know"
Watched the match on BBC. Steve Bruce an expert said. "I don't agree with that decision, I thought O'Rourke was a fairly comfortable winner"

The polish boxer was only deducted in round 1 for holding when she did it in every round, another two points taking off her score would have meant no split decision and the Canadian judge having the final opinion on who won.

An absolute scandal in the boxing tonight… the IOC should make a huge issue of this or they are doing their competitors a total disservice…. Brutal stuff

Holy smokes it's happened again. That morehouse result is worse than last night.

Up there with Kenny Egan's Olympic final

So when we win medals there's no problem with the judging. But every time a boxer loses its bad judging.

Another scandalous decision by the boxing judges in Paris tonight with the Irish boxing losing to a home town decision. Daina Moorehouse clearly won the fight. End of story.
Up their with the Michael Conlon decision years ago.

Delighted Bernard Dunne and Kenneth Egan made a massive deal out of it

Boxing at the Olympics is thoroughly rotten and I wouldn't care if it never appeared again. The wee Irish girl won it comfortably.

Exactly the same as Jude Gallagher. Won the second round by s mile and only got one judge's card.

Woeful stuff. Considering the controversial decisions that have marred other Olympics, and not just Ireland, how is there not more transparency when it comes to scoring? It's all very vague and mysterious. There should be clear metrics which can then be reviewed or scrutinised if completely out of kilter. Obviously there will always be some level of subjectivity and interpretation but it seems like there's no rhyme or reason in some decisions.

Eight Irish boxers are now eliminated, no issues with six of them losing (Grainne Walsh, Jennifer Lehane, Dean Clancy, Aidan Walsh, Jude Gallagher and Jack Marley)
Many neutral commentators felt both Aoife O Rourke and Diana Moorehouse were convincing winners but the verdict favoured the Polish and French boxers.

Are the judges not making a big enough of a mess out of it…?

You obviously know nothing about boxing when you come out with a statement like that?

Egan said the Moorehouse fight was lost before it started. Pretty sick, when you let those words wash over you.
