To make the Olympic final at the first time of asking is a really great performance from a 21 year old. I am not expecting a medal for her today. Everything is a bonus from here on. The future is very bright for her.

Replying To ForeverBlue2:  "I don't know a lot about it but would Rashida not bet better in the 100/200 races as she seems to gas out over the last 100 or so.. She also beat the gold medalist in the 100 earlier in the year and her time would have got her a silver here…. Tomorrow will tell a tale… hopefully she has the race of her life.."
Today won't 'tell any tale'. Naser, Paulino, and the Polish lady will take the medals in all likelihood. Rashidad likely 4th at best.

It would be sad in a way if an athlete ran the race of their lives at 21, with probably a good decade or more left in their athletic careers.

Replying To zinny:  "It's a joke that athletes caught doping are allowed back into sport. I remember seeing studies that said the positive impact of doping last for years after they stop taking the drugs. It's not as if they didn't know what they were doing. Ben Johnson was given a life ban"
Johnson was suspended, he was never banned for life, he competed at the 92 Olympics

Hopefully the race of her life so far as a 21 year old woman. No point in thinking too much about when you are 28, a lot can happen in life and you just don't know when you will get the next chance. Kellie Harrington has a great attitude, she doesn't look past the fight that's in front of her and she goes into every fight wanting to fight to her best.

So it would be sad if Rashida ran her best ever race today in the Final…. very strange… no point in you looking at it so…!!!

I'm sure Rhasidat has a great attitude too, to get where she is at 21. Some other opinions on that subject would surely have a whiff of 'big Ron' about them.

A medal of any colour would be a huge achievement for her

Has to be said, even getting to a final in these events is new territory for an Irish athlete and a great achievement in itself

She's proven she is world class and the future looks bright

Might be a major event too early, but you never know. Then if she stays injury free and keeps progressing, the World Championships is only a year away, and she has the experience now.

But again, any sort of medal here would be an incredible achievement and the very best of luck to her

Her 100 metre time would have got her a silver medal here? Hardly seems right?

She absolutely must do to get to where she is at such a young age, I didn't mean that she didn't have a good attitude. I just mention Kellie Harrington because she has spoken about just taking each fight as it comes and not looking past the next fight. Hope she has a great race this evening and everything goes well for her.

Credit where credit is due I though RTE coverage of the Olympics was superb, having David Gillick interview competitors immediately after their races was a master stroke.

4th in the world last year, 2nd at the Europeans and ranked 6 from the semi-finals. Adeleke's rivals are under more pressure. Hopefully Adeleke is 100% and can run the mature controlled race she has been preparing for.

I think that seeing the women's 4 x 400m team (without her) qualify for the final tomorrow will give Rhasidat a big lift and give her some additional confidence.
It might take the pressure off a little bit as she now has two chances of winning a medal.
Sophie Becker and Sharlene Mawdsley had both their fourth 400m races today and still were able to run very strong races. Hopefully Rhasidat can do herself justice tonight as she is an outstanding talent. A medal is not out of the question if she performs well.

Not to be for adeleke but wasn't for the want of trying..no shame in being beaten by 2 world champions and a European champion.she has done everyone proud and is only 21..hopefully her best years are all left to come..it really is brilliant to hear interviews with all these athletes,so honest and refreshing,no bull..

Great performance but just not enough. Age is on her side and she seems like the type who will be driven on by just missing out. Future is still bright for her. Hope she can give the relay team and big boost.

Running the relay, if she is not fatigued, should be a good tonic for Adeleke. She seemed to enjoy the team camaraderie before the European final.
Becker will have to run below 51 again, Healy close to 51 and Mawdsley close to low 49s if they are to cause an upset and sneak on to the podium. It would be some finish if they can pull it off. US, Jamaica and the Netherlands rightly favourites. France and them across the water will push hard as well.

So close for the relay team. They all delivered sensational times.
Was it the right decision for two to run the repechage? Might resting have given that bit extra?

If only Tommy Doyle hadn't of had that drill of spuds and half side of bacon for breakfast in '82! Could it of made the difference?
