For me the best since 2013. Although the 2014 drawn final was very good also on reflection. So the best since 2014.

I've been to 53 senior hurling finals including replays. It's not easy to say which was the best of them all but I don't think I have ever seen anything like yesterday's final. It was magnificent.

The 2017 and 2018 finals were very good. Seeing teams (Galway and Limerick) end a long wait.

Agreed. The 2014 Tipp v Kilkenny draw was an excellent match. The extra time yesterday, fair or unfair, added to the drama. A Final that will live long in the memory.

An absolute thriller of a game and to think we could and should have had a sequel in a couple of weeks time if it wasn't for poor refereeing..!!!

Agreed. I always considered the 2014 drawn game as the best, but I think yesterday surpassed it.

2018 was a very good game and a brilliant occasion for success starved Limerick supporters but not an absolute classic like yesterday. Limerick dominated that final except for the hour of injury time (;

Of the finals that I have attended 2009 is up near top of the list

They were better than good, they were great from that point of view. But as games of hurling they didn't match yesterday.

I would have to agree. Watching since 1959 there has been epics but I think yesterday tops the list. I also believed the greatest team was the Kilkenny four in a row but would give the present Limerick team the edge now. Why ? They would probably have the five in a row without 2024 only for a sleepy umpire and linesman. They are still young enough and pieces to add that will keep them in contention with yesterday's boys.

I would rate it as the best final that I have seen (that's going back to 1979).

Great final but would rate 2009 ahead of it

Hear Hear and so say all of us Cork should have had a free at the death to take the game to a replay

Yes 2009 was competitive for 55 mins but Tipperary were reduced to 14 players and Kilkenny pulled away to win by 5 points helped by a debatable penalty award and a second goal following a Tipp defender's faceguard being pinned to the ground giving an advantage to the KK forward.
Last Sunday was much closer…level at half time, full time, mid way through extra time and separated by a point at the end. A few pundits are being critical of standard of defending for the goals and missed chances by both teams . Sunday was in the balance until the last play in the 90th minute and the underdogs prevailed at the end.

Having re-watched the match in full. There was a lull in the 2nd half where the quality dipped for a good 15 mins. Immediately after a tight match, which was very good but folks get emotional and caught up in a wave of excitement.
For me 2014 was the best both in quality throughout and excitement. Honourable mention to 2009 too.
While we're at it I think the worst final I ever saw and attended was 1987, Galway v Kilkenny.

2002 another rotter. They're never great finals, when you know one team hasn't a sniff of winning it, from start to finish.

I think the 1990 final between Cork and Galway and the 1997 final between Clare and Tipp would be up there too.

I don't think it was bad at all. There were fantastic goals in that game and one of the best points scored in a game not to mention a final in my lifetime. Even though it eas against my own county. There's been plenty of finals where the result was kind of inevitable from early on so I would pluck 2002 out above many others.

I'm talking about the quality of hurling. Another awful match was 1981 for example. Offaly only played in the last 10 mins if that. Galway hit wide after wide and should've been out of sight.
