Replying To martyW:  "Think thats part of the reason it was done. Alot of senior players unhappy with the current manager but CB were reluctant to give into player power. From all accounts Declan Kelly is the one and only main man in all his jobs so far so cant see it ending well"
The CB already have 'given in' in my opinion. It's a strange appointment & no doubt not a cheap one either.

He and Gavin Devlin did a great job in Louth. Circumstances are different in Offaly. Micky Harte is co manager in Offaly and Gavin Devlin is employed in Louth.

I'm sure Declan Kelly is happy with this, otherwise he would have left.
I see it as a great opportunity for Kelly to learn from a man with such great experience.
Modern day sports environments focus allot on humility. This also includes management.

This is a really stupid decision, was so impressed with Offaly last year, we're playing some really expansive stuff and had some lovely young players with - talk about chalk an cheese between the approaches of the two managers.

Just as it was always his dream to manage Kildare when he hawked his wares to the Kildare Co Board a couple of weeks ago...

What are the chances of them both them ending up in the same county, at the same time, sometime in the not too distant future?

Have a listen to Michael Duignan's appearance on the GAA social podcast... nothing but praise for Declan Kelly. A strange appointment in that context & certainly not cheap. For a county that only turned a corner a few years ago on the admin side, you have to wonder the logic of it.

Mickley will have them training with rubber balls.. with the amount of bouncing around involved.

A strange choice, Mickey is out of touch with the modern football tactics at elite level. Offaly in Div 3might get a bounce, but just have to see. I would have allowed Declan Kelly continue as manager, but Offaly footballers think they are too good for Tailteann Cup and other secondary competitions, as per 2024 results. We barely survived in Div. 3 this year, there a few egos in the squad who need to be faced down.

As the Undertones sang once, ' A good Harte these days is hard to find'. Check in 2025.

Senior Inter County hurling and gaelic football managers have to be the most rewarded people in the country.

Should this project work out well for Offaly and I hope it does as it will make other counties of a lesser God sit up, take notice ad say why didn't we think of that.? Someone said we did think of that but we didn't have the resources.

Either way it is going to put serious financial pressure on most other similar counties.

This is just another example of a CB going down the road of employing an outside manager and for what..? Offaly were beaten out the gate at home last season by London in the Taltainn Cup so what is the point of this apart from wasting resources and making a fool out of the man already in charge…? As for it working out..?

Good news for Offaly I think, Mickey will bring them on a level.

You're not as vocal on the Davy Fitz forum Victor. Does football and Mickey Harte that annoy you?

I'm not surprised that much with Davy jumping from here to there for cash but I'm a bit surprised with Mickey… I know Derry brought him in to try and give them the final push towards Sam but for some reason it didn't work out whatever happened mid season… He reinvented himself somewhat in Louth and was never going to stay there when a big job ( Derrry ) came calling… This Offaly gig seems strange to me as I thought only working with one of the big counties would interest him at this stage in his career…! I always had great respect and time for Mickey Harte but this just doesn't seem like the right job for him…

Just have to see how things go. Declan Kelly has been retained, but with another joint manager.
I would have been happy with Declan on his own. Offaly are hardly world beaters, I wonder if 'The Harte Transplant' will last.

Mickey Harte is a legend, and more importantly a shrewd manager.
He's not just looking at Offaly as a challenge, he can see untapped potential there too.
And from Duignans point of view, another shrewd man who has done very well for his county on and off the pitch, Mickey Harte is probably just the man to get the most out of the players, like Micko did with Kildare and Paudie did with Westmeath.
My kids will still be delighted if they lose though!!!

Nothing strange about it at all. Money talk's it as simple as that. The exact same as the last move and he didn't deliver the good
