I have a lot of respect for what Mickey achieved as a manager, but that comment is fairly disrespectful to Dooher and Logan. Tyrone hadn't come close to winning in over a decade and the style of football in the latter years clearly wasn't getting the best out of a talented group.
Ultimately it was the right call for the Tyrone to part ways with him. That was proven by the new management taking them all the way.
Mickey is one of the greatest football managers of all-time. It was also the right decision for Tyrone to move on, in my opinion. Both of those things can be true.

You should have!

I am not a mickey harte fan, but I think some of the commentary in the media about his derry tenure have been ridiculous and some of the criticism has bordered on being personal, best solution all round to part ways

Ideal man for Kildare who are a team with potential and good underage coming through. Personally I'd love to see him in Leitrim but can't see it happening

Thinking about where Mickey might go next and the passing of John O'Mahony (RIP), caused me to think: Has Mayo ever had an outside manager? All the other Connaught counties have, but if Mayo has had an outsider, it doesn't come to mind.

They had an unfortunate interlude with Brian McDonald who won All Ireland with Dublin in 1963/.

He had unusual training methods I seem to recall and did not last long. Perhaps some of the Mayo lads remember?

Jack O'Shea managed Mayo in the early 90s. It was a high profile appointment at the time.

Replying To Fionn:  "With Mickey Harte gone from Derry, where to next for him.?

I know an Ulster and an All Ireland were the end goals for this season perhaps, but he did win a Division 1 League Title this year with Derry, so it wasnt a totally unsuccessful season in charge.

I am sure there will be at least a couple of counties interested in his services.

But which is the better option for him now.?"
Meath.

The famous car pusher Brian McDonald managed Mayo… was he from Dublin…?

That's the man! Actually i think he was born in Roscommon. Used to play with Synge Street - Anton O'Toole and Niall Scully and O'Garas clubs.

An awkward man, by all accounts! Think he's still with us so better be careful :-)

Replying To Onion_Sack:  "Would there be no interest in the Kingdom Mick. After Jack fails to deliver yet another AI surely he'll step down a year early?"
Yeah but Dubs will pron snap him hom up first.Seriously though some county will benefot from Mickeys experience.Yes I would think Jack will step down if Kerry dont win this year but Kerry dont go for outside managers in football as a rule.We have a Tyrone man with us though in Paddy Tally.

Replying To Saynothing:  "I wouldn't mind Micky or Malachy O Rourke in Tyrone. Derry were never good enough to win an All Ireland they headhunted Micky and then hung him after a year."
Perhaps not, but they were certainly good enough not to lose 4 games in one year.

I would think that Gaa headquarters would not be one bit happy if Rory Gallagher was reappointed manager of Derry for obvious reasons. The female support would drop off and many Gaa people including myself, would not agree with it.
