I've a soft spot for Romania. World Cup 94 was the first World Cup I really got mad into as a young fella. Romania had a great team back then with the likes of Hagi, Popescu, Raducioiu & Dumitrescu. Good to see them back performing well at a big tournament."
Great team in 94, along with Bulgaria. Hagi and Stoickov both with Barca at one point! Did the eastern European teams just go badly down hill after the fall of Communism? Only Croatia seem to have got better the further away from the fall of the iron curtain you go. Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia all had great teams. Red Star Belgrade and Stauea Bucharest made European cup finals in the late 80's and early 90s. The brilliant Shevchenko Dynamo Kiev team were the only one's that came close to them since.

OK I going of the subject now myself but with all the 24 teams at Euro 2024 having now played who have been the standout team if there has been one , For me Spain have been the best team so far there looked very good against Croatia , And for you who have been the standout team ?

Would be a shame if it was decided by a VAR decision

Yeah I think in a lot of those Communist countries players weren't allowed to leave their own country for foreign clubs until they were 28 or something like that. So a lot of those teams were very strong.

But after the Berlin wall came down & Communism ended the floodgates opened.

Always thought Yugoslavia would have had a right crack at Euro 92 & USA 94 had the country not disintegrated.

I can't pick just one. Germany, Spain and Turkey.

Ya Spain looked very good against a old team!!
What Croatia, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium and Poland all have in common apart from red/white colours is that they have had the same core of players together for the last 10yrs or more qualifying consistently for World Cups and Euros. For alot of those players this is their last Euros.

Not sure who'll be strongest by 29024 but I'd be very hopeful the fai will have at least announced a replacement for Stephen Kenny by then.

In all seriousness I fancy Portugal

Portugal made heavy work of their win last night. No more than England, I don't think they have a manager capable of managing the vast talent at his disposal. Martinez is a bit of a spoofer. If he wasn't managing at this tournament, you could guarantee he'd be on the BBC pundit team, wearing a fancy shirt and sandles, spoofing away and Lineker and co lapping it up.

I'll be interested to see how Germany go tonight. I'm not sure if they're really as good as they looked against Scotland. Scotland shot themselves in both feet in that game and Germany took advantage ruthlessly. Hungary have given Germany plenty of problems in the last few years. But if Germany can deliver another statement performance and win then they'll be hard to handle as the tournament goes on.

The Semi Finals that year...Bulgaria, Sweden and Italy all had something in Common........their star players Stoichkov (Bulgaria), Brolin (Sweden) and Baggio (Italy) all were playing for the wonderful Parma!!

Looks like Turkey might be living up to their dark horse tag this time. They totally flopped in the last Euros. But they do have a history of going far in tournaments when they do click, e.g. WC 2002 and Euro 2008.
Arda Guler is a player to keep an eye on. He is at Real Madrid but they have used him sparingly so far. Scored a peach yesterday against Georgia in a cracking match.

Dino Baggio was at Parma, but Roberto was at Juventus. I assume you mean Roberto when you refer to the "star man"
What a player he was!

Also Stoichkov was still at Barcelona, moved to Parma in 95.

That Parma team was class though alright. They had Brolin as you mentioned, plus Asprilla (Colombia) and Zola (Italy) and Sensini (Argentina)

I'd hold fire on the Turks just yet.

Georgia should have at least got a draw yesterday. Game of the tournament so far.

That was typo regarding Baggio... Dino played.
Your not going to believe me, but I have the Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Roma Home and Away Jersey from that era mid to late 90's.......I couldn't get the Parma home and Away tops, but I did happen to meet the '95 and 99 UEFA Cup winners when they just happened to be having a reunion in a restaurant in Parma while I was there on holiday. Got a photo and autographs Buffon, Crespo, Chiesa, Zola, Thuran!

I once encountered the Lazio team in a hotel in Naples. I was fairly heavy into a good session of Peroni so I thought it better to leave them be :D

That was a golden period of Italian football, from the late 80s and through the 90s. Channel 4 on a Sunday afternoon was hard to beat.
