The Christy Ring Cup has 6 teams. The last 7 have been win by Kildare 4 times, Meath 2 times and Offaly 1 time. Meath and Kildare have been swapping places over the last few years. Hard to see any other county winning the Ring Cup anytime soon outside of the current McD counties and Meath who have been relegated. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8284 - 12/06/2024 23:28:46 2551097 Link 0 |
You don't seem to realise it's football we are discussing here not hurling… have you anything upstairs at all…?

More tiers…? You don't think 5 is enough..? I know we are stuck in the bottom one ( Lory Meagher ) but we reached one final and probably should have got there this year but no need for more tiers… Football may need a 3rd tier but it took so long for a second competition to be approved I doubt we will see it happen anytime soon…

Is there any possible upsets this weekend? OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 717 - 13/06/2024 11:30:04 2551161 Link 0 |

Excitement, attractive to watch, result in doubt etc. And then Limerick win in the end. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1952 - 13/06/2024 13:02:37 2551187 Link 0 |
Doesn't matter who wins in the end … the key words you used were excitement and doubt…. Neither of these words can be attributed to the football championship so far which is why we have paltry attendances… simple logic ,

Hurling has to a certain extent closed itself off to new teams coming through. By promoting only 1 team up and down through the tiers you get this yo-yo effect. Now that the league has got 2 up and down that will at least allow teams to develop through both league and championship. When it comes to tiers in football - we probably have 3 tiers brianb (Kildare) - Posts: 352 - 13/06/2024 15:17:58 2551225 Link 1 |
Exciting games with no room to hide if you don't have the skills . Their isn't 13/14 players from either team behind the ball . The ball can move 60/70 metres in one strike as opposed to 20 hand passes in football .

Unsurprising to be honest. We have some cracking footballers who can really play but we don't have the consistency and streetwise mentality of the experienced counties. We have periods in games when we disappear completely but others we knock the ball about with great skill and movement. Today's game was a prime example. Well done to Andy, his coaching team but especially the players. Gaelic Games in Antrim and Belfast need this boost.

People were simply basing it on who won the groups. Sligo and Antrim were very close. The semi-final draw will be Sligo and Antrim in one bowl to be drawn against Down and Kildare or Laois.

God, do you follow the games at all? No draw needed. By keeping past pairings apart, it is Sligo vs Down and Antrim vs Laois/Kildare. It is very simple really! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2095 - 15/06/2024 22:52:42 2551748 Link 0 |
Down v Antrim didn't stand out! Kildare or Laois will only have six days to prepare for the Tailteann semi-finals if the hurling and football fixtures are switched next weekend.

The moving of Tailteann Cup semis from Sunday to Saturday next weekend again shows the consideration and value Croke Park have for the competition. macca999 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 1142 - 16/06/2024 13:05:46 2551837 Link 0 |
The GAA show their true colours on a regular basis. All counties are equal but some counties are more equally than other. The moment the GAA devised second and third tier competitions in both hurling and football they were always going to prioritise and promote the bigger counties. Itcwon't be long before counties at certain levels are forgotten about - the GAA are trying to do it low ranking hurling counties. Secondly, we see how there is an agenda to put games behind a pay firewall. At intercounty level the game is struggling and it is all down to poor decision making at the top level.

Lads it's a B competition, no point in saying any different. For the Sligo manager to call the hurling quarter finals dead rubber is ridiculous. For our sake hope they are moved, otherwise very tough to run a feile competition looking for volunteers. alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 444 - 16/06/2024 14:47:34 2551866 Link 0 |
Kildare were very poor against Laois. Surely the end of the road for Glen Ryan FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 16/06/2024 14:55:03 2551869 Link 1 |
Won't bother Kildare fans much. Any grumblings they had over not being. Tailteann Cup team were well and truly dispelled today by a much better Laois outfit.
