I can't think of another similar result in hurling, either in my own lifetime or historically. I suppose Antrim beating Offaly in 1989 was shock but Antrim were decent enough back then. Ironically, similar to Westmeath beating Wexford last year, Carlow still most likely to be relegated. Antrim are pretty poor but are a different beast in Belfast as we know. An amalgamation of Leinster, Connacht and Ulster. Football then could have a Southern Championship, an amalgamation of Connacht, Munster and Leinster. Carlow drawing with Kilkenny has to be the biggest shock in GAA history, at senior level. We once beat a Christy Ring-led Cork in the league, but yesterday was on another level. This is a premier competition. It's the championship. And it's not like Kilkenny weren't trying. Can't be compared to something like the Tailteann Cup, where about half the teams don't seem especially interested. With all due respect to those who are. Yup,, beforehand brolly said it would be impossible for Fermanagh to win and few disagreed. Your lot beat much fancied tyrone that same day, who were defending champions and pretty much joint favourites with armagh to win the all Ireland. Marty Morrissey called it seismic Saturday lol. They had a poor league campaign in 1991-92, while Clare won promotion to Division One. In this case, Kilkenny were in an All Ireland final last year, and played in the NHL Division One final, last month. Carlow have just been promoted from the Joe McDonagh.
