I don't know how true it is but I have heard there is a bit of trouble in the camp between players and management. A lot of players not happy. You can see it on the pitch.

Canavan was talking about the week away. Seemed to imply that this was root?

There seemed to be a seeding of provincial winners last year? Anyway, that's all semantics. Let me rephrase: When Dublin play Kerry, that is effectively the All Ireland final. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 2859 - 02/06/2024 18:09:07 2548959 Link 2 |
McGinley referenced something to do with that alright, not sure if it was right of him to do so, doesn't appear to be common knowledge. I thought at the time of the league final that maybe Derry invested too much in beating Dublin. It's hard to know, but something is very wrong with them, they were awful. Can Mickey turn them around? They have certainly proved to be a very formidable opponent on their day. The group stages have thrown up a few surprise results and as a result it looks to be very open. Another good showing from Louth again today, realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8642 - 02/06/2024 18:13:14 2548963 Link 0 |
As I say not sure on how accurate it is but the word I heard was that players fell out with each other and there was some punches thrown, then a fall out with the management- all at the training camp. Mickey hasn't a hope of turning it around if he doesn't change the tactics. Teams are wise to us now and are targeting the high press. 6 goals conceded against Donegal and Armagh all identical. The loss of discipline is a huge issue and tactically we seem all over the place. McEvoy, McGrogan and McKinless are massive losses to this team as well. Mickey could be getting the heave ho if this doesn't improve, and fast. Jazzyjeff (Derry) - Posts: 192 - 02/06/2024 18:49:43 2548973 Link 1 |
Yea from talking to Derry friend. The holiday was the beginning of the end of Derry this year. Micky won't be there next year. Strange appointment from the off.

It's Connacht v Leinster I think, unless covid 2020-2021 tripped the old sequencing, or perhaps that sequencing has been dispensed with in this current format.

Mmmmm....rows in the dressing room at HT......club feuds....manager losing the dressing room....same old story in every county.....when the wheels come off the wagon in untimely fashion.

Very little actual value to Cork in that 'big' result over Donegal so. They still likely need 'a result' v Tyrone in the last game to avoid 3rd place in the group. Not ideal.

Derry are very fortunate through bad design to be still in the championship after two losses. The funny thing is though that few of us will begrudge Westmeath and Clare still having something to play for! legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8053 - 02/06/2024 20:27:49 2549009 Link 0 |
Any idea what happened? How does a team training session turn into a row? Are there too many local rivals or against the management ?

Galway v Armagh, Dublin v Mayo and Kerry v Louth will be three quarter-final playoffs. Galway v Armagh and Kerry v Louth played in R3 last year as well. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8053 - 03/06/2024 10:25:14 2549116 Link 1 |
Derry are coming off 3 losses, and look as flat as pancakes. They're just not in a 'banana skin' phase really, and Westmeath could win that.

By all accounts it stemmed from club rivalry. I suppose when things start to go wrong the infighting starts. Harte has mismanaged the situation preferring to try and let the players find their own way through it rather than taking a firm approach to discipline. I think a lot of the players were unhappy with Harte's appointment and Devlin's past association with Slaughtneil annoyed the Glen lads. The issues causing the fallout would not have been tolerated under Gallagher and there is strong rumours that he is to be brought back next year. I like Derry but no team which has lost three championship games ought to still be in it. Indeed, no team that has lost two ought to be in it, and said as much about our hurlers before Galway match when there was still a mathematical shout of getting third on basis of score difference. One chance ought to be the limit. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 2859 - 03/06/2024 21:12:16 2549279 Link 0 |
Excellent synopsis legend, well done.

Very likely Barney but teams can be caught too in a knockout game when they are seen as unbeatable even, the way this all is now is a farce alright, 3 teams still in with a chance from a 4 team group stage, Derry will be looking for someone to end their misery, very strange they way they have imploded, they were every ones 3rd fav a short time ago, Armagh could be a dark horse, or Galway if they get injured players back. It should take life at the quarter final stage, it's been dull enough so far apart from Ulster Championship. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2859 - 03/06/2024 22:01:25 2549301 Link 0 |
