Replying To Viking66: "Why does the captain need to make a speech either? That should be saved for the homecoming." That's a good point too, scrap them altogether

Jarlath reminds me of a man who has political ambitions after his GAA presidency is over, would he be thinking of running for Uachtarán na hÉireann? He's fond of the microphone once he gets his hands on it alright.

Replying To WanPintWin: "Tradition a mhiceo. It's been part of All-Ireland finals for quite a while." I know. There have been some great captains speeches down the years too. Dalys and Storeys in particular struck a chord with me. But they seem to go on alot longer these days. Maybe backroom teams are just too big nowadays.

Replying To totalrecall: "He would be better off arresting the spiralling ticket prices, all on his watch. GAA are now looking at incrementally increasing ticket prices dependent on location in croke park, meaning tickets on half way line will be more expensive than Davin etc" As they should be.

I genuinely mean this in a non patronising way. Nor am I trying to wind people up. But is everyone ok? Is there something missing in your life? Some of you are just relentless whingers. Is there nothing in your life that you are happy with?
Begrudging so many people of so many things is a you problem not anyone elses.
This thread is just one of so many examples of angry people inventing an issue to rage against.

Even putting aside his ridiculous self indulgent speeches, he has been a poor President in addressing issues.
-The Provincial Championship system: he will not address because of his own personal bias for Ulster, forget everyone else in the country. As he said '"Well anybody who asks me that, about provincial finals and making changes to the championship, I say, 'Well, I'm an Ulsterman, there won't be any changes during my three years." He wasnt saying this when the Leinster counties welcomed Antrim into their hurling championship as there was no competition for them in Ulster.
- Casement Park. Lots of politician like talk as usual but not a piece of sod turned.
- Compressed Intercounty championship and All Ireland finals in July. Blink and youll miss it. Since the switch LOI soccer is growing massively in North Dublin and Leinster rugby in the South.

Replying To boxtyburgerbuns: "New to forums where people give their opinions are we?" Clearly not. Nor am I new to unhappy people, with nothing good to say about anyone, relentlessly complaining about EVERYTHING anonymously online.
If people are angry cowards online then there's nothing I or anyone can do about it on fora like this. You're in a vicious circle of negativity. Go outside for for a walk or something, I'm no expert, but it's not impossible to bring some light and positivity into your life so that at the very least the traditional presidents speech on AI final day doesn't wind you up to the extent it very clearly has

This thread is just one of so many examples of angry people inventing an issue to rage against." It's a social media thing, not even an Irish thing. People want to vent and many think posting on a forum will make one iota bit of difference. If people want to change something, make a complaint to the relevant body, run for political office or, at the very least, vote for someone. Sticking a photo of the Palestinian flag on your lawn on your Facebook will make ***** all difference to anything except the burgeoning Palestinian flag industry and Facebook revenue.

Agreed but to me it seems that the negativity and cynicism on here in particular has increased significantly relatively recently. There are a significant number of posters on here for whom nothing is good enough. You'd question why they're here at all if the GAA brings so much spite into there lives. Rules, presidents, counties, refs, pundits, players, volunteers, tickets, facilities, fixtures, venues etc, they're furious about it all

If you notice former presidents speeches just usually praised the teams, the officials and to a certain degree the sponsors. That seems to have slightly changed and people are entitled to comment that they aren't fans of it. Just as you're entitled to be a fan of it. It wouldn't be a forum if everyone agreed with each edder.

I certainly would have no urge to have them scrapped altogether cos I didn't like one of them. I just watched them and got on with my life. Maybe it's me that's weird
