Drove past it lately, it's such a sorry sight completely run down and doesn't look like any work is being done to it. Such great memories there on the day of a game in Croker and on student nights in Dublin, hope to see it opened again soon and not wasted by being made into even more apartments! An awful kip of a place. There wouldn't be a soul in the place except for the day of matches or when they ran student nights. Almost zero local trade. Says a lot about a place imo. Owners didn't care as they knew they had guaranteed trade on match days as many people are creatures of habit but how it was allowed to stay serving was unbelievable. I agree with the previous posts about Quinn's being an awful kit, with very poor management over many years. A developer purchased Quinn's a few years ago and planned to knock it and the attached buildings in order to built apartments. He was refused planning permission and thereafter had financial problems. The new owners have a couple of guys working on it but they do not seem to be making much progress at the moment. Huge potential for a good quality gastro-pub in Drumcondra particularly if the huge site sold by the GAA off Clonliffe Road is developed. (Another story!!) People of today will not put up with filty conditions so hopefully the new owners will invest in a top quality job and install a professional and experienced management team to run it. It would also be good to see a name change as every time I pass, it reminds me of the insurance levy I might be still paying. The fact it got so wedged on match days and student nights that you couldn't see the floor really helped. But then one time maybe 10 or 15 years later, I was staying a weekend with friends who were renting near Drumcondra, and we decided to go to Quinn's for old time's sake. It was far from busy, looked dirty, and had a dull, dreary and generally unwelcoming atmosphere. My thoughts exactly were "wouldn't be rushing back here again". My in laws liked to frequent it when they came up for games but I managed to convince them of the virtues of some better establishments long before its closing thankfully. Met my brother in law in there the night of a Champions League Final once, his call. The place was deserted and the smell of st made it easy to convince him to relocate down the road. I remember being in Quinns in 2006, toppin spot in the day. That and the Hideout were nice luxury establishments, just my type of place. Where are the good places now near Croker? Heading up Saturday, gonna let down the mowing arm... I have a debit card with more money than JP McManus ready to go and I drink real fast even when Leitrim loose. Yeah McGraths is a way better pub and down by Fairview I always enjoyed the craic in Meaghers. Used to live near Richmond Road once upon a time.
