Player who wins the mark must take it, unless they are injured in winning the mark, then their nearest teammate takes responsibility

But the nearest team mate cannot score directly as Eoghan Freyne did on Saturday. Point should not have been allowed.

Score can still be taken by the second player, even if he didn't claim the mark. Nothing in rule book to stop it

Rule states "If the referee determines that the player who makes the 'mark' has been injured in the process and is unable to take the kick, the referee shall direct the player's nearest team mate to take the kick but he may not score directly from the kick." Eoghan Frayne scored directly from the kick which contravenes this rule. It was also very significant in that it meant that Ashbourne then had to go for goal at two points down rather than take a point opportunity to draw the match which would have qualified them.

Are you looking at the latest version of the rulebook? The "but he may not score directly from the kick" is no longer in there
Belt (Meath) - Posts: 272 - 09/09/2024 15:31:37 2569107 Link 0 |
Isn't the rule anymore , official rule book says " a score may be awarded"

Someone else can take the kick, must be an old rule book that you are looking at. Nothingbutthetruth (Meath) - Posts: 67 - 10/09/2024 12:06:46 2569238 Link 0 |
After three rounds you would be right if you thought the top scorer in the Senior championship played in the game on Sunday where Ratoath had a cricket score, but wrong if you thought it was a Ratoath player because it is Keith Curtis of Rathkenny on 0-20 (11frees), however Ratoath's Cian Rogers is the top scorer from play with 3-8 (17). madmeath (Meath) - Posts: 83 - 11/09/2024 21:01:29 2569459 Link 0 |
As rathkenny only got 11points did Keith Curtis kick points for Ratoath as well

Obviously this is a total after the 3 group games (Trim, Skryne and Ratoath). Keith Curtis is another player who our former Senior manager deemed not good enough to warrant any significant game time over the past two seasons despite being one of the best performing forwards in the county in that time.

Think you missed the point. Keith is top scorer over the 3 group games not for one game…

Heard talk that Conor Nash trained with Simonstown in an in house match during the weekend. He is also listed on their 13 man list for senior clubs. a massive boost to them if he is back but is there any truth in it? COUNTYTOCOUNTY (Meath) - Posts: 30 - 17/09/2024 09:59:35 2570304 Link 0 |
Hawthorn lost in the afl at the weekend and there year is done, so possibly could be true.

I do remember he almost lost the contarct when they won it in 2017!! i am sure that time has moved on and they would be more than accepting of him playing this year. If he is i could see simonstown being genuine contenders

Having lost their 1st round game in Ashbourne and having almost been beaten by Dunshaughlin in Ashbourne in last years QF, Ratoath immediately complained to the County Board (CCC) to get their QF against Dunshaughlin moved out of Ashbourne and within 24 hours the County Board relented even though less than 24 hours earlier Meath GAA were promoting it on their website, as the big crowd puller under lights on the Saturday night in Ashbourne. madmeath (Meath) - Posts: 83 - 17/09/2024 17:31:04 2570436 Link 0 |
How do you know that they asked for it to be changed?? I don't think Ratoath have an issue with Ashbourne all their lads have won games there plenty of times! I also reckon Dunshaughlin don't care where they play them - don't know for sure but I suspect Dunshaughlin are a younger and probably fitter team! I think it makes sense to change it - I'd say it will attract the biggest crowd of the weekend and I'm not sure Ashbourne is great for getting in and out of especially with the road works in the town at the moment! Makes sense to have 2 double headers in PT in my opinion! Easier for county board to manage Royalblufill (Meath) - Posts: 511 - 17/09/2024 20:21:49 2570473 Link 0 |
I would imagine this is complete nonsense and the reason it's moved to PT is to make it easier for clubber who are showing a game from there on Saturday and Sunday

Spoke to two Ratoath lads and they were moaning about Ashbourne. Mentioned they had a poor record there and suddenly its changed. As regards access, there would be no problems with Ashbourne on a Saturday evening. The clubs stewarding is second to none. They ran a blitz for u11 two weeks ago and it was like clockwork. Superb day. I have no affiliation to them, just an envious neighbour. Their grounds are always in superb condition and its a pity they are not rewarded. Personally would of preferred to play there than PT in latter years. PT is undoubtedly a better surface to play on but that's as far as it goes.
