TK is still trying to get back to full match fitness we needed to play at full pelt to beat Limerick no excuses LK were the better team we should have nailed 2 goal chances missed a few handy enough frees and some wild options from long range frees. Limerick on the other hand missed nothing I would not have been happy with referee either yesterday. Brian Lohan has improved Clare hurling no doubt but hard to fathom why he makes some decisions dropping David Reidy and Hayes makes no sense to me Dara Lohan Hurled two balls yesterday one directly lead to LK point lasted most of game Shanagher Morey must be considering leaving panel at this stage also E Quilligan he needs to make a decision on him i would try the sub keeper at this stage Overall very disappointing clooney (Clare) - Posts: 960 - 10/06/2024 09:19:35 2550470 Link 0 |

My takeaway is as follows: a. Limerick are a generational team and are better than us simple. b. We had too many off colour yesterday. Truthfully, the only Clare players who fronted up were Leen, Rogers, SOD. Fitz for all is scoring is allowing his man to hurt us. McInerney did not look fit enough and gave Hegarty too much space. c. Lohan made changes way too late. We should have made changes at halftime. McCarthy and Darragh Lohan should have been hooked at half time for Reidy and Galvin. d. We needed to bring our a game and didnt simple. We had no chance as a result. Also, that bit of luck was missing. We can 2-3 goal chances we didnt take. To have any chance of winning we had to take those chances. A reset is needed now or we will be gone in the next round. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2679 - 10/06/2024 10:30:13 2550489 Link 0 |
Comfortable win for Limerick as expected. tommy k (Galway) - Posts: 3470 - 10/06/2024 11:21:43 2550511 Link 0 |
Maybe Brian should take a risk and try Cian Broderick in goals puck outs and decision making not good enough by E Quilligan. IMO Darragh Lohan is not yet good enough for midfield David Reidy Seanha Morey or maybe Mounsey or Donnellan or maybe put Rory Hayes Kelly should be played at 13 a bit of roving but he spends far too much time out the field Aaron Shanagher should start either full of centre forward he is getting badly treated IMO. David Fitzgerald is a super athlete and great man to score but for his height poor in the air only puck out option is Duggan not enough and our delivery to forwards too wayward Ian Galvin not getting enough game time neither is Shane Meehan using the bench badly Is it time to try a find new centre back and move John Conlon back to full forward for the next game. We are still in championship but our form has been patch enough clooney (Clare) - Posts: 960 - 10/06/2024 11:32:12 2550515 Link 0 |
How uneffective again was Malone yesterday? Gave away possession several times and never adds to the scoreboard...great athlete but is he a passenger in this side?

Only someone who floats in and out of Clare hurling would fail to understand the importance of Cathal to our team. The amount of work he gets through is unreal. He was one of 10 who had a poor game yesterday.

Firstly you will see I am an Offaly man, and no more than the Clares and Limericks (upto a few years ago anyway) I always looked out for the Clares, Wexfords, Limericks, Laois's, Dublin in hurling, Kerry Westmeath etc. etc. Just a few obs on that great Munster final yesterday...again, John Conlon was super, David Fitzgerald, Tony Kelly with 3/4 points was still "quiet" by his standards he has delivered before. Others were good too but thats not why Ime posting..it was the playig Tony Kelly bit that I think caught Clare between a rock and a hard place so to speak. You had Tony Kelly, Aidan McCarthy, and Mak Rodgers - all exceptional free takers. As we know every team needs one or two. What players do off the ball is as important, and I think while McCarthy took the frees. and if thats the set up so be it. But I think you then have Rodgers who is an exceptional talent but needs to be in the game scoring wise - he was put CF and then full forward (if Ime out on the CF bit apologies but I gather he is a central type player yesterday anyway) So he was then doing he grafting - well capable - but if not on frees he wasnt getting the game he can get going into flow as he was not on frees and Ide say was frustrated trying and trying - I know it migth sound like Ime simplifying it etc. Aidan McCarthy did miss the odd free that I think Rodgers would have nailed - again maybe it was just on the day for McCarthy - he is normally deadly 10/10. Tony Kelly then was included, the man got all over the pitch and scored at least 4 or 5 points - what more can one ask of any forward - justifified his inclusion. But what I am saying is - with the exception of Rodgers who was in central battle - possibly one of that three should have been held as as sub (not necessarily Tony Kelly - one of them) and maybe a player like Ian Galvin or another more grafter - no they might not score all the points the others above might score but they might help dig out a goal or two in near goal. I just think three very classy and free scoring forwards out of 6 doesnt always win the matches - Aidan McCarthy was subbed near end after a very solid game - not sure was he just tired or injured. But I think playing all 3 just sort of backfired a bit maybe..all three worth their places in gold I know, but sometimes you have to plan a little wider and keep someone as back up. O'Donnell was good again yesterday but he too might need another "grafter" outside on the 40 maybe to help him..I hope Clare can regroup now - 3 munsters finals in a row to loose is hard with what is a very good team...wishing them all the best.

I agree with most of your comments, Clooney. There seems to be a lazy analysis in some quarters that Limerick had a comfortable win. Yes, they deserved their win, but Clare were desperately unlucky not to score at least two more goals. If they had got even one of them it would have made for a very interesting finish at least. Tony Kelly is a super player but I think both he and Fitzgerald take too many shots from long distance, and as a result the outstanding Shane O'Donnell sometimes doesn't get enough quality ball. I've often wondered how O'Donnell would work with Shanagher alongside him, even for 10-15 minutes at the end of a game. I can understand your frustration with the referee also. He made some very strange decisions, on both sides I think, and was very inconsistent with his yellow cards.

I floated in yesterday for a look, and thought that Lohan, Malone and McCarthy from the front8 weren't up to the level required to worry Limerick. What kept Clare in the game imo was that Limetick lacked their usual full forward line cutting edge without Flanagan and Casey, and also Lynch didn't exert the influence that he's shown himself to be capable off. That's an influence that Lynch might need to find at the semi and final, if Limerick are to see off both Cork and KK. Limerick are an extraordinary squad to be capable of this sort of business as usual, while missing four regular starters, so Clare need have no regrets. Clare just aren't as good as Limerick, and that's that. KK have lost the last two finals to them, Galway 3 of the last 4 semi-finals, so Clare's losing situation versus Limerick isn't in any way unique, or worthy of any special sympathy. I would not bet on that RedHelmet. I honestly don't see many if any other that Limerick that are better than Clare. Full back for certain a problem and he is lucky to be finishing games. Now the refs are on to him also.

The management have no faith in our bench. They are not being given any chance to prove themselves. Every game this season we have been too slow to make changes when players on pitch are tiring or not performing. What is the issue with Aron shanagher? Must be very frustrating we know his talent and he is not being given a shot , his height and goal scoring ability surely warranted 10/15 mins on the pitch yesterday. Poor decision making by goal keeper all day long continuesly dropped ball down on Kyle hayes and he was cleaning it up. Abcdefg123 (Clare) - Posts: 5 - 10/06/2024 21:10:46 2550689 Link 0 |
Few observations, an earlier poster claimed that Clare have three exceptional free takers, most pundits would argue they don't have one who is exceptionally good, keeper criticised for aiming puckouts on Kyle Hayes, there were no puckouts aimed in his direction in first twenty five minutes, another poster claimed game could have gone either way, majority of supporters felt Limerick won handily, comfortable six point winners Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1916 - 11/06/2024 00:15:57 2550708 Link 0 |
Maybe I am biased but Peter Duggan is an exceptional free taker could never understand why he was taken off them TK was not his clubs free taker Aidan McCarthy should not even be starting how is he better than Ian Galvin or Shans Team needs a shakeup clooney (Clare) - Posts: 960 - 11/06/2024 11:26:34 2550756 Link 0 |
Can I ask aswell why morey isn't getting more time?I always thought he was a very good hurler and very reliable for scores..Meehan and crotty not getting time either..I know cleary is captain but would Mcinerney be a better full back..shanaher must wonder at this stage why is he actually on the panel.. Agree with above. Peter was fantastic when he was taking them for us a couple of years ago. It would be great to see a change for potential wexford game and give shanagher or Galvin a chance to start…although unlikely. Have they been given more than 10 mins this season? Shanagher when brought on is usually around 70th minute can't understand it

You are right you can also add Aaron Shanagher Ian Galvin Shane Meehan and maybe Mounsey as well Conor Cleary is a far better hurler than given credit for and can play from the front he will have to because it appears he is being watched now by umpires gave away a few silly frees on Sunday. I would take a gamble and bring in Cian Broderick in goals too clooney (Clare) - Posts: 960 - 11/06/2024 14:55:48 2550827 Link 0 |

Clooney, I agree. Conor Cleary is a fine hurler. However, depending on who the full-forward is, the full-back position at times requires 'curtailment men' as opposed to fine hurlers. Hence, the nickname 'The Wrestler Cleary", because when he comes up against Gillane, Cleary doesn't hurl; Cleary holds, even the refs are beginning to see that. Look at Huh Lawlor from Kilkenny, who has broken even with Gillane in the last 2 AIFs, where Lawlor has hurled (few exceptions), but he has never been in yellow card territory like Cleary often lurks. I think if Cleary went out and hurled from the front and trusted the men beside him and the man behind him, then we'd see the real prowess of the hurler, not just the 'curtailment man'. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2095 - 11/06/2024 17:03:13 2550852 Link 0 |
