What's going on with the Senior Hurling manager vacating his post just before the championship? BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 994 - 27/03/2024 22:31:40 2534201 Link 0 |
Allegedly, a players vote of no confidence resulted in him resigning. It was some commitment to travel from Limerick, but he was appointed manager of a Cork club team earlier in the year so he will not be idle. His replacement will not have long to work with. hurlingcowboy101 (Meath) - Posts: 17 - 29/03/2024 14:21:23 2534477 Link 0 |
I wouldn't know the players well enough to judge for myself, but was a weakened team sent out for the minor hurlers today? CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1657 - 30/03/2024 17:48:32 2534653 Link 2 |

Not sure any truth in that players vote of no confidence, may have been a case of just too much time put in for no reward. Great to see two men who have been involved before stepping in in the hour of need, should add some familiarity to the players. Hard see anything other than relegation to Christy Ring unless they can spring a surprise over Down or Kerry so the bar is low. off_the_wall (Roscommon) - Posts: 69 - 03/04/2024 11:25:50 2535346 Link 0 |
It's a shame Kildare didn't stay up last year, as we've a good record against them in the last 10 years. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1657 - 03/04/2024 14:04:26 2535377 Link 1 |
Strange to see Hurling Chairman resign soon after Hurling manager did same glenny (Meath) - Posts: 1114 - 03/04/2024 20:55:28 2535451 Link 0 |
I think most hurling people know what went on. Doesn't paint a great picture of the players, especially the older members of the squad who have been here before. Puts big pressure on them to have a few big performances in the Joe mc or else replacing Bulfin will have been totally pointless. Tobefair80 (Meath) - Posts: 69 - 03/04/2024 22:55:19 2535475 Link 1 |
I see Meath are playing Laois oin the celtic challenge Saturday. Any details on who is involved with this team? hedgefund (Meath) - Posts: 12 - 04/04/2024 10:30:43 2535520 Link 0 |
Lads ye could have who ye want managing the team, but we're going nowhere when the club who won absolutely everything last year has one player in the whole setup. Most of ratoaths best players aren't in there either.

There is a reason why they only have one, There all away well so I was told. 17 missing from last years panel.

Kildalkey have good club players. Very few inter county standard. Ratoath and trim would have more but they play football. Gaelic_Games (Meath) - Posts: 21 - 05/04/2024 15:16:07 2535855 Link 0 |
I hear he gone from Leinster council delegate also so maybe more than just the hurlers pushing out the manager ? glenny (Meath) - Posts: 1114 - 06/04/2024 10:56:27 2535970 Link 0 |
Won't say anything about the minor result. But 2 good results for the u20s and U16s. Particularly so for the u16s against Laois in the Celtic Challenge. Not often we get a result against a Laois team, Great score and squad seems to have a good spread of players hedgefund (Meath) - Posts: 12 - 08/04/2024 09:57:08 2536469 Link 0 |
Yeah agree there should be more Kildalkey players on the panel, and Ratoath and possibly even more Trim lads but for some reason most of these players aren't willing to give such a large commitment to the county setup for no reward. Rightly or wrongly that's the facts. The county board seem to have no interest in actually improving the standard of hurling in Meath, i would forget about spending large amounts of money on the senior team and put it into the underage teams and try to develop them. The minors and 20's (all be it they had decent results lately) are even gone too far, no real quality in those teams either to take onto the senior setup, no real standout players on the 20's team that will even make an impact at club level this year and the two county senior men on it haven't played club senior hurling yet . Minors got the mother of all beatings against Westmeath so those two teams are not going to add much in the future. Go down to grass roots and get quality coaches (Not players fathers) and try to develop the skillsets, easier said than done i know but unless we try we will fall way further down than we are even now. In a county of this size there is no reason why we cannot produce a strong football team and a competitive hurling team, if the desire is there from the top down! He stepped down from so his position in Leinster council was up for grabs. What your insinuating didn't happen

I don't think it's all the former manager's fault that there aren't more Kildalkey, Ratoath, Trim and indeed other club players involved this year. Every year will bring changes for a variety of reasons but I feel that some opted out as they knew they would struggle in both League and Joe McD cup this year. I also felt that some performances last year were less than convincing. Given that, some of the newcomers this year were I think decent enough and deserve credit for stepping into the breech vacated by the lads with the medals from last year.

The county senior hurling (and soon the senior football) just isn't appealing to players anymore. Our hurlers are out of their depth in the league and championships, with goal of winning one or two games v down/kildare to stay up. Try keep the rest of the games respectable. begining (UK) - Posts: 311 - 09/04/2024 09:49:54 2536814 Link 1 |
The former managers fault? I don't think any one is suggesting that at all, he has asked them all back i would imagine but they just wont commit. I think that you are rite though that they have their medals and trip to Croke Park and don't fancy a relegation battle this year which isn't great to see but understandable i suppose. I wonder will the new manager attract any new players back in or is it too late for that The first thing he needs to do is get the few older members of the panel back in their box though and concentrating on playing the game rather than trying to run the whole setup.
