Replying To Curlew66:  "Ah lads (Forever & Oriel) no need for for neighbours from proud footballing counties to be be getting nasty with each other , this name calling is getting us nowhere. Both of you are making valid points about fine tuning the championship (rules review underway and will be for another day)
In the meantime we could review if this home/away/neutral group matches is working out. Should it be just the top 2 teams only from each group qualifying for the semi finals or should the 2nd and 3rd team be allowed more recovery time and not have to play three successive week ends. I think only Monaghan last year and Galway this year have succeeded to reach last 4 from that position and it hast helped their injury situation."
Then top your group and you have the preliminary week off. Makes every game have consequences, and cuts down on dead rubbers. Players are all for it. Only opposition is from pundits and journalists who get paid to cover county games and irrational lookers on. The former wanting county football 52 weeks of the year, with no interest in our main stakeholders the club players. The latter, well I don't know how they can be helped. Maybe a backward time machine. Even the Polo Grounds doesn't exist any longer. Time moves on.

I was referring to the county scene… club games are going on all the time but obviously you have little or no interest in that….

Thankfully we have a president who can see the problems within the current system… we all know time moves on and the Polo Grounds no longer exist but it was a venue where Cavan claimed one of their All Ireland's which is something Monaghan never experienced and they never will either once the stronger teams can keep loosing games and still win the competition… Change on the way whether ORIELMAN85 likes it or not…

Yes I can see the incentive for topping your group and avoiding pre lim QFs , still creates an uneven playing field though for the quarter finals which could be avoided by just the top two from the four groups qualifying for QFs after a 2 week break. I wonder is there an appetite for having the 3rd team qualifying as well , I dunno. There is also the luck of the draw factor, having to travel to Killarney put you at a disadvantage from day 1.

Replying To Ulsterchamps72:  "The GAA need to check the Donegal v Galway semi final, they said there was an attendance of 67k. The stadium looked and felt busier. You had one empty section by the scoreboard in the Davin/Hogan upper corner and a small upper section on the Hogan at the Hill end and the rows they decided to sell last night the A, B and C rows. That would have been a total of 3 or 4k. How were they then going to get another 12k into the Hill/Nally end as it holds 13k in total. There was a large crowd in there and it looked 60% to 70% filled. I reckon the crowd was north of 75k. Adult tickets were €55, Hill €40 and OAP's €50, and juvenile tickets were €10. Do they count 5.5 children as one adult?"
Looked close enough to 75000 to me, the hill was over 80% full, the nally was empty which is what standing for a few thousand people. Very few seats free apart from one section in the corner.

It was a huge crowd for a semi not including Dublin, must be the biggest football wise without the Dubs since 2008.

It's just you said the season is nearly over,, as if the club scene doesn't count.

He doesn't have a season. It is just whine, whine, whine, whether it be here or on the Cavan Forum. We might get a rest for a while as the Cavan Leagues are in chaos, according to him. So he will probably be off to rescue them.

A massive crowd for 2 counties who had to travel a distance

There he goes again… sticking his nose in about something he knows absolutely nothing about as usual…

Both teams fanbases rejuvenated this season. Hopefully we get back again next season.

67k didn't surprise me under circumstances. Lots of posters were predicting 50k last week. GAA need not rest on the last two Sundays at Croke Park. They need to work harder to harness big crowds in right sized stadiums every time.
