Spot on. Way too many intercounty games these days.

That whole "duel" thing should be left back in the 18th century where it belongs. Barbarous that a county like Dublin would still be indulging in it in this day and age.

This from the man who told me it was down to the playing styles not competition structures as i had argued. You are some craic.

Are you stupid ..? Of course the playing style also contributes and that coupled with teams knowing they are not knocked out no matter what the result leads to supporters staying away… Why do you think the hurling is getting such big crowds…? It's miles more entertaining than football regardless of how many games are played… Football is so boring people are not silly enough to keep paying in… reducing the games would be a help but unless it becomes more enjoyable to watch people will stay away and they are right….

Folks stick to the attendances thanks................ dingle82 (Down) - Posts: 231 - 14/05/2024 15:27:25 2544746 Link 0 |
1500 in Cavan on Saturday for Ros vs Tyrone u20 All Ireland semi final. We have been in a good few of these in last 15 years and would always be a 3 - 5k attendance. Again root cause is condensed season , too many games at the same time and unseemly rush to get fixtures out of the way. facethepuckout (Roscommon) - Posts: 216 - 14/05/2024 16:35:36 2544779 Link 0 |
The heading is 'Attendances 2024' so it's perfectly fine to discuss why attendance figures are falling through the floor.. isn't it..? People don't really care what the exact number that's in attendance as it can be plainly seen on tv that the grounds in nearly all cases are half or more empty… What they do care about is why so few are attending matches, particularly in football…!

I'd endorse what he said tbh. I go to most home games and with that in mind Saturday should be unmissable, fantastic team coming to salthill for the championship, but the fact that pretty much everyone qualifies from the group stages kills alot of the anticipation and tension. I'll probably still go like but I'd assume in general the structure of the groups will affect negatively attendance on the whole. There's big group games like Galway and Derry which I'd go to myself, but most are missable. Dublin v Mayo is only football group game I'll be at I would imagine as only one likely to be of consequence and possibly not even as both probably qualified by that stage so just first place up for decision. I'll be at all the hurling hopefully including a quarter final. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3348 - 15/05/2024 08:15:10 2544842 Link 0 |
Where will that Dublin v Mayo game be held? I mean, given that Dublin's home game v Rossies will be in Croker, it wouldn't be fair to play their neutral game there too. . cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5238 - 15/05/2024 11:58:15 2544895 Link 0 |
It won't be in Croke Park. One less thing for you to toss and turn about at night. Why would it? I would imagine Thurles or Limerick. Preferably Thurles as Limerick I don't think suited Mayo last time? Might of course, depending on other plans for those venues be in a smaller midland venue or Cavan? It will be the biggest crowd demand for any of the group games I would think so 40,000 be perfect in one of first two. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3348 - 15/05/2024 12:48:29 2544907 Link 1 |
Cavan or Roscommon I'd say.

Possibly, although if it is still a game of consequence they would easily fill Thurles or Limerick.

All joking aside the huge drop in attendances is really down to the big wigs in the GAA taking their eye of the ball and solely concentrating on income and revenue flow… They thought the crowds would continue to flow in so they saturated the the competitions with far too many fixtures…. but the people wised up and stayed away as there is no jeopardy in all these meaningless games… It's only when in becomes a knockout that fans will get interested again…. There will always be an odd outlier game like Sundays Ulster Final but those games are very much in the minority at this stage… So the type of a crowd at Croke Park ( 23k ) is a real wake up call for the GAA but they don't seem to see the problem…. There's your original post. My whole argument for the main reason in attendances drop offs is exactly what you said. The problem is you are repeating what other people have said. You never mentioned the above before now. Your whole argument before this was football quality. You haven't an original thought in your head. As for being stupid, i am not the one having a ridiculous argument with Dublin supporters because of childish posts. That's you. Good lad. 10,000+ at the Offaly v Kilkenny under 20 semi tonight , some support ke40 (Kildare) - Posts: 214 - 15/05/2024 21:38:44 2545003 Link 0 |
Offaly underage teams get huge crowds which put many senior hurling followings, including Dublin's, to shame. Portlaoise be heaving next Wednesday, 14,500 Biffos and 500 Dubs! Beidh mé ann! BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3348 - 16/05/2024 09:37:56 2545032 Link 0 |
It is going to be in Roscommon.

The original drop off in attendance figures was caused by the pure puke football that was (still is) on offer.. The GAA then confounded the situation by adding more games thus adding more puke football.., If the product is good then the people will continue to go ( just look at the hurling attendance figures ) regardless of how many games are on… The original point stands…, rubbish football drove crowds away in their thousands… Take your head up out of that sand you have it buried in .. good lad.
