Decent performance, would have been nice to get the draw at the end. Very fussy referee ruined the last couple of kickouts. I thought the newer lads in defence, Kiernan, McKeogh and O'Connell were all solid which is a big positive as this is an area we need new blood. 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 411 - 04/01/2024 13:33:49 2518334 Link 0 |
It wasn't the standard finding a way to lose type of performance. In truth, the scoreline probably flattened Cavan. Derry were far superior to us all over the pitch. There movement on and off the ball was on a different level to us without getting out of first gear. Derry play to a system and as a team, we rely more on individuals. On the face of it and with reference to the last few years, you couldn't say that Derrys individual footballers are that much superior to Cavans. Derry obviously have serious talent but they have also been exposed to a much higher standard of coaching up there over the years. That is why they are winning Ulster on a consistent basis and we fluctuate up and down the divisions. asdfg (Cavan) - Posts: 320 - 04/01/2024 13:49:47 2518337 Link 0 |
It's the McKenna cup pal... A win would be nice, but it's about building for later in the League and Championship with a new manager and a glut of new and returning players. Calm yourself down

So what forward have we who is better than McGuigan, and what midfielder have we who is better than Conor Glass?

So? They did, and they finally won with a point in injury time after bringing on trong players like McGuigan while we ran our bench with 6 or 7 debutants. Donegal also played the Armagh U20s. Also you're comparing with Harte and McGuinness who've been there done that in pre season before. Come on now. It's the McKenna cup. You people need to relax

Still lost in the only competition we had any hope of winning.

No big surprise that we lost this match even though some poster's thought we should win comfortably based on the team selections… Derry in the last 2/3 years are operating at a completely different level than Cavan so even with a raft of changes they would be expected to beat Cavan… Some here saying it's " only the McKenna Cup " is a bit silly… Micky Hart while with Tyrone always treated this competition with respect ( I think he won 6 in a row ) and it didn't impinge on their season afterwards… it only helped.. As long as we are up to speed in the league and keep our place in Div 2 is all that matters…another decent performance v Down will help that… All the best to Arva today in their semifinal…! Are you really that concerned about a pre season competition?

Winnings better than losing. Nothing else left to win after this competition

Maybe I have you wrong but I imagine you as one of the fans who attend Cavan games with the attitude that they're destined to fail. What's more, I imagine that you're one of the lads who's armed with a few well worn lines, such as 'ah sure they're useless', or the classic 'kick it in'. The attitude you've displayed above is of a 'fan' who will attend a game subconsciously waiting for failure, so that you can tell us 'I told you so'. I believe we'll be in the mix for promotion. Having Donegal and Armagh in the division makes this a long shot, though. There's everything to play for, however. Why not adopt a hopeful approach and wait to see how things develop.

I sincerely hope you are right but I will be seriously surprised if we are anywhere near being in the mix for promotion….with all the new faces bedding in and such… Kildare is a tough start but a game that we should target as playing in Carlow might throw them a bit…. If we finish above Fermanagh and Louth we will be ok but talk of promotion is a bit fanciful… Having a realistic approach is no bad thing either…

So you don't mind writing off the only hope for silverware for hope and moral victories. Maybe real fans want them to win every competitive game, not just use them as training sessions. That's why they were playing challenge games all December.

Do you go to games armed with a few well worn lines such as, 'ah sure it's only mcKenna cup' and 'ah sure once we don't get relegated' or the classic 'we would have won if..so that's good'. Your beginning to sound more like a monaghan supporter...

I go to games to support my county and to enjoy the sport. Its a hobby not life and death. You go to games expecting to see a defeat and it clearly annoys you. The comment above about how the Mckenna Cup- a preseason warm-up competition- is the only chance Cavan have of winning anything shows this. If you're going to games with that sort of attitude then you need to rethink how you use your free time. Have you nothing positive to add?
