I think if you check current panel several of the hurlers played foitball with county first inc. Chin . Some of the footballers may not have the hurling ability on occasion but anyone with county football will have the s&c done which is a huge part of modern intercounty game. So yes if a chap is decent hurler but better footballer and not picked for hurling squad encourage him to go football but work on his hurling skills in the hope that he ll improve and at least if he has the s&c and fitness work done he will be somewhere ready for the demands of intercounty . Instead of belittling football and discouraging the lads from playing . If not let him go back to club and train with his team which may include several players who drag standard down to their comfort level and he may never catch up with s&c of intrcounty . I d rather see a lad playing intercounty football and work hard on his hurling skillset outside training. The modern game demands physicality and fitness which is equal in both codes at top level . Why would hurling management even look at footballers if they had nt got those elements already . In the hope they would improve their hurling if brought in and given the chance . Communication with these players would be key . Never close a door on any player we can't afford it in present circumstances wger I believe we will struggle for couple years at least . We lack physicality to the point where we will get bullied .

Our underage teams, minor and u20, the last couple of years haven't lacked for size and physicality, thanks to the great work they are doing now all the way up. I think the days of us being bullied physically at Senior are coming to an end.

This video was on Wexford GAA TV recently which gave a good indication of what's happening. Fair play to all involved https://youtu.be/3DpUzEW1r5Q?si=nh1fBJcaJJ8dknYT
