Replying To Afinestick96:  "Disappointed waking up this morning. That game was there for the taking . We reverted to playing every ball long in the first 20 minutes of the second half. The Kilkenny backs dominated us in the air. Chin had an off day which can happen anyone. One positive from yesterday is we have young lads like Eoin Ryan, Conor Foley, Lawlor and Cian Byrne showing they are well able to compete at this level and will continue to improve. Decisions went against us no way was that a penalty and the supposed penalty in the first half was over the line in the lead up to it. The Wexford support was great yesterday but we need to stay with the team now for the rest of the season. We should get over Laois or Offaly and then face probably Clare again. I agree with another poster no way should we be made go to Cork or Thurles again. Id be amazed if its a double header Cork will bring 30k to quarter final v KK or Dublin so there wont be enough tickets for other supporters. Providing we get over Laois or Offaly the Wexford county board should be pushing for the Clare/Limerick game to be in Nowlan Park or Portlaoise."
Couldn't agree more on the whole Thurles thing and Cork for that matter.

Of all the hurling counties the trip to Thurles is shocking drive and trip for Wexford fans.

With the buzz around Cork hurling back time they could well over half fill Thurles themselves.

Anyone else think that maybe fanning should've saved the penalty? Wasn't one of TJ's normal rockets.

Replying To wexfordwin:  "Sunday game analysis was shocking..

Paddy Deegan has nailed down the 6 shirt " according to Dalo when he played midfield!!

They called out the bad penalty decision but said the one in first half was a black card. It wasn't - a black card is for a deliberate pull down inside the 21. Matthew fouled him but did not deliberately pull him down. Keoghan had taken 8 steps by the time he threw himself on the ground. The ref correctly gave a free and a yellow card."
They praised him for not going down and trying to stay on his feet he was actually trying to get inside the box before he went to ground to get the penalty if you look at it again . No problem with that as that's tye way ut goes . Rory trued same as msc caught vall and scored the goal in first half .
Without Lee and Rory on their best form yesterday i think kilkenny had theur honewirk done on Lee. And rirys touch was slightly off yesterday but still both of them gsd major influence when you think back on it . ⁶ we still racked up decent score.
I d say Cian byrne makes huge difference to our other forwards especially mac . When hes in there and gets quality ball he takes some minding . Opens up the options and oppyrtunities for the rest then ..
Think full forward line scored 2 07 of our total from play . . That does nt happen by chance.
The work rate further out the field creates the chances inside . Kilkenny sat back bit more in 2nd half and packed the half bzck midfield area winning the physical battle and the war on the ground . Pinnng us back and leaving space for their forwards which they did nt have earlier in the first half . .
Anyway we ate still in it I quite happy with that . Antrim and Cork game are the 2 games this year we lost our focus and dropped our performances
But all in all I m much more positive now than I was at any stage over last 2 to 3 years .

I just couldnt see us beating them. Think if we hurled well and Clare had an average day we could definitely beat them in a quarter final"
How much deeper than a semi final can a team go? Only 2 teams go deeper than that!!!!

I'm not saying we can't beat Clare by the way."
I reckon we could take Clare in perfect circumstances but it would be against all odds. We should have done it in 22.

There's probably no scenario where we beat Limerick.

Regardless, we can't look past whoever comes from Joe Mac. Offaly in particular would love playing us.

I'd be more optimistic too if I had any evidence to back it up. End of the day we didn't get over KK yesterday and I thought they were there for the taking so I guess I don't feel we will go deep in the championship.

Always happy to be wrong so prove me wrong Wexford.

Eoin was on TJ for alot of the game too!

If we win our next 2 games we are in an AISF. Only 2 trams can go deeper than that. And why can't we beat Limerick, even if its not that likely? Lots of things could happen on the day.

I agree our record hasn't been great there but for alot of our trips up there in the last 15/20 years our team hasn't been that good either, or has been ravaged with injuries.

I thought we couldn't buy a free yesterday, someone else mentioned we have a problem with tackling but I don't see it to be honest.

Happened to be watching highlights posted on the GAA website just now https://www.gaa.ie/videos/kilkenny-v-wexford-full-time-highlights-lshc. Billy Ryan's second score was a free out (1:48), he's beaten to the ball by Jippo and pushes him straight into the back. Not just a hand on the back he literally puts his weight behind it and shoves him. Then TJ takes the softest of contact off Eoin Ryan twice and dives. Thought the ref was very biased, we weren't fouling any more than Kilkenny. I think it's unfair to have a ref from the same province doing the game, especially when Galway were still in it on the last day.

Back to the cycle of trying to get over this loss and the feeling of leaving behind wins during the campaign against lesser teams.

Again I feel we were good enough to win Leinster this year but we left it behind like 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023

Not closing out the Dublin game and not kicking on after 7 point win in Antrim cost us a Leinster final place. We should have been going up yesterday with 8 points and a Leinster final in the bag.

If we can come within a point of Kilkenny in Nowlan Park then we can surely beat Antrim.

Jack made a big difference yesterday but was brought on too late. We needed a physical presence in the half forward line and this wasnt addressed soon enough. The penalty was a free and those 3 points cost us the game. Even with us not playing well. Dublin are in their 2nd Leinster final since 2021 but I feel we are a better team. The difference is they dont get turned over by the so called weaker counties but we do. Not once, not twice but three years in a row. (Westmeath 2022, 2023 and Antrim 2024)

Dublin beat Galway and lost to Kilkenny. Same as us but they progress to a final and we dont. We lost by the bare minimum a point to Kilkenny. And we beat Galway by 8 with 14 men. If Kilkenny had finished third yesterday and we were in Leinster final people would give Kilkenny every chance of getting over Clare in the Preliminary quarter finals. However now that we are finished third I give us very little chance of getting over the Munster runner up - why is this??

Because the bare minimum that Kilkenny bring - every single day - is 100% commitment and work rate. We do not bring that every day. Our forwards were not chasing or pressurising yesterday as soon as we went ahead. The difference between us yesterday was;
1. Work- rate and intensity - chasing every lost cause
2. Free taking ability
3. Giving away soft frees
4. Aerial ability - winning primary possession. When the ball broke - we missed a lot of pick ups.
5. Too many repetitive long balls on puck outs

Thought he was average enough from open play. Still a great man to win a ball in the air but can't get away from defenders anymore (bar grabbing their arm/hurl and jumping to the ground). Reid and Cody missed some sitters from play they normally would score in their sleep. So I think the scoreline flattered us a bit.
Very disappointed with our performance in truth after such a good start.

I understand we won't go deep in to the championships that's what awards seem to be based on but he's surely nailed on for a nomination.

No fear or trepidation in him at all"
Can't knock his finishing but I thought he struggled a bit to win contested ball. Even balls out in front of him, slippy/bad sod (the state of the pitch yesterday was a disgrace) his first touch wasn't to its usual high standard. With the exception of Mac and maybe McGovern I thought the rest of our forwards were bullied a bit yesterday. Not every pass or ball in at this level can be gift wrapped.

It's extremely disappointing this group of players will might only end up with one Leinster medal. I feel like this year and 2021 were huge opportunities for us. Its so disappointing because we know we more than likely wont win the All Ireland and our dream of winning Leinster is gone. Im sure the players are hurting today

Thought Tj's diving was a disgrace yesterday and even Kilkenny men around me said he clearly pulled our lads arms and went to the ground. Sickening because the margins were so small

A long ways from the team being written off. In fact Wexford should be in the Leinster final. Like us the breaks never seem to go our way.

I admire your optimism. Usually it's finalists that get the gongs like hurler of the year all stars etc. or at least that's the way its been in last few years.

I don't see us getting to final. TBH I don't see us getting to Semi final. With our recent record against "lesser" teams I'd have angst going to play offally or Laois and thats evidence based, post traumatic stress.

I really don't want to say we can't beat Clare.or Limerick because on any day anything can happen. But it's extremely extremely unlikely.

It's always could haves and should haves and what ifs. And they've all bloody hurt. Tip in 19,.Clare in 22, Dublin and KK this year.

We've a very good team and hopefully on the up next year. It would be great to turn those close games to actual victories. Until then I'll be going to the games in hope than expectation.

I had expectations yesterday and look where that got us
