If i don't know the rules (as a supporter) what is the harm.? only to me as i get frustrated with what see as a wrong decision probably because i dont understand
whose responsibility is it that i should know the rules? Mine - or else i get more frustrated.
The only issue is if I take this frustration out on another person. and if so i should be accountable for my actions.
In the tullamore case.
The referee made an error which he corrected and ultimately got it right.
The Supporter (who i understand was an injured player and should have known the rule and the fact that the referee was right) got frustrated could not control his emotions and assaulted the referee. He needs now to accept his punishment. Very clear cut no excuses."
Exactly that. Responsibility for one's actions. Another casualty of "progress"!!

Contrary to what I posted above, they might actually have a chance of having the suspension reduced.

Have just looked up the exact wording of the rules, and the 96-week minimum suspension is for the Category VII offence of "Striking or attempt to strike, or any type of assault on, a Referee, a Score Umpire, Line Umpire or Sideline Official"

However, a Category V offence that carries just a 12-week minimum is: "Minor physical interference (e.g. laying a hand on, pushing, pulling or jostling) with a Referee, a Score Umpire, Line Umpire or Sideline Official."

Would expect any appeal hearing to come down to a debate over whether what happened was "a type of assault" or just "minor physical interference". The fact that pushing is specified as a type of minor physical interference might strengthen any Tullamore case.

The rule-makers may have intended a differentiation between "ordinary" pushing (minor physical interference) and pushing to the ground (a type of assault), but things aren't set out that way. Could be a case where the Rule Book ends up suffering from not being prescriptive enough.

I see the Tullamore Player had his ban reduced to 24 weeks on appeal. on the grounds that there were extenuating circumstances. Thats some joke!
Either the powers that be are serious about dealing with this sort of behaviour or they arent. That player will hardly miss a match.

I think we need to hear what these extenuating circumstances were.

What possible extenuating circumstances would justify running onto the field and assaulting a referee? That is a rhetorical question before any of his club mates jump on me with the sob stories.

Also, I see that the other club member had his ban reduced to 8 weeks from 48 weeks.

The policy of having friends in high places within the GAA is obviously alive and well. The GAA can run respect the referee campaigns all they like but let's be honest, the GAA couldn't care a less about match officials.

Wow I shouldn't be surprised the suspension is reduced,but it makes a complete joke of any suspension handed out for anything in the Gaa..I'd love to hear the excuse for reduction of ban.

Spoke after this happened to a friend told me he'd get 2 years and book through at him told him be lucky if he got anymore than 6 months.

Absolute joke and shows no respect for referees or officials. Lifetime ban he should have got 24 weeks miss league back for championship.

Referees deserve full explanation for the reduction.

Also hope referee persues a criminal case against said player for assault. GAA approving of thuggery on this one.
