They were not a new winner. They had won All Irelands before. Not since Tyrone in 03 has there been a new winner and it has never looked less likely in either hurling or football.

100%. Yet many managers have done it in recent years, as if they are some tactical genius springing a player the opposition knew was going to start! The last time it worked well was the 2013 All-Ireland final and can't remember once since.

No it isn't.

Any supporter that does not know prior to going to the game who is named from 1-15 is likely to have had there head in the sand for the previous two days.

County boards should be asked to submit a squad and not a team for the program which is what most are doing now anyway.

I think that as time goes on counties that were likely to make the breakthrough on account of a playing tradition in pockets or chunks of that county in one or other, or both, codes have mostly made that breakthrough already. Counties that might make a breakthrough still, though not for many years yet, on account of population and/or participation, would be Kildare and Meath especially in hurling, and possibly Wicklow in both football and hurling. Counties like Westmeath and Carlow would be struggling for numbers and population. Kilkenny and Waterford aren't likely to win a Football AI, and while Clare lost to Wexford in the Football final of 1917, they likely would need a golden generation to come along to reach another. I think all of the other hurling counties have already won a Football AI, with the exception of Laois who would likely need a golden Football generation also, while of the Football counties Kerry have already won a hurling AI.

A few years back he got motm v Laois (i think) and posted a tweet or text after game teasing all the fitness fanatics with perfect diets saying something like "just got motm today and just letting you all know I had a 16 inch pizza at midnight last night". A charachter for sure!"]Apologies and with respect to the man but was he a Meath or Louth player, can't place him."]Fermanagh and still plays with them. He played against Dubs in the championship in croke park in 2015 and scored 1-9 (1-4 or 1-5 from play. There were about ten mins left. However you can't tackle the keeper in the small square so it should have been a free out. I don't believe it's right to turn a blind eye just because teams are losing. Fermanagh scored another goal in injury time I think and ended up losing by 8 points. Now if someone had money betted on Dubs to win by 10 pts or more they would have been cheated put of their money. Quigley a charachter no doubt and a great player but rules are rules.

A lot don't as the program teams has to sent into HQ by midweek. Teams have another training session before the match and injuries happen.

Quigley a charachter no doubt and a great player but rules are rules."]Was on the Hill and definite square ball, but barely an objection from Dublin as game was over, Always liked Fermanagh and spent a bit of time up there and greatly enjoyed their mad run in the year they beat Armagh and had chance to beat Mayo in semi final after that.

Paul Brady wrote a version of his Hawannah Way - the Fermanagh Way - which I can't seem to find anywhere now.

Injuries do happen but some teams name teams completely different to that printed beforehand. Or have players in very different squad numbers/jerseys.
Just give all players a squad number at start of year and he problem is solved. You don't have to go wondering who's wearing 6/7 today etc

Firstly, these are world class performers, and with all due respect to inter County players, on a different level. Yet they can walk out a couple of minutes before the start, (often in an event where they might have less than a minute to nail it ), smile warmly, wave to the crowd, blow kisses, and even throw in a few dance moves. On the way over to the track some if the athletes can be seen laughing and talking to their rivals.
Contrast this with GAA where players brows are furrowed, lads go round roaring aggressively, and any attempt to relax is considered a weak lack of focus. I've heard club managers say "I knew ye were in trouble when I saw ye laughing in the warm up". Give me a break ! If these players are so easily put off, then team psychologists are being paid too much.
Furthermore, after the race the graciousness in defeat is evident, there are warm embraces all round, and win or lose the athletes come smiling to reporters and conduct honest, conversational style interviews. Again in GAA the losers are bitter or its like a wake, and the winners talk in clichés and again are careful not to smile as that would be seen as getting ahead of themselves.
Personally I've been a GAA fan for 40 years, but I think the whole thing is full of its own importance now, and the days of individuality and characters of the game are long gone. Frankly it's boring.
Usain Bolt's tricks and messing and being an entertainer on the start line never impacted his performance.

GAA codes are combative, contact, team sports where players are competing for a piece of metal and a name on the roll of honour on the wall of their County Board HQ. You can't compare professional athletes obtaining an education in some of the finest universities in the US, being coached by some of the best in the world, being paid handsomely through appearance money, sponsorship and endorsements with fellas training 2 or 3 nights a week after a day's work and then taking to a pitch on a Sunday all for the love of the game and in the hope that some day they might pick up a medal. Characters in sport in general are a thing of the past whether it be snooker (Higgins, Stevens, Bill W), Tennis (McEnroe, Cash, Agassi), Soccer (Best, Clough, Vinnie Jones), Athletics (Lewis, Thompson, Moses, Phelps…). I think money has made most sports sterile now. There is simply too much cash involved which has brought in a level of hyper-professionalism, personalities have been neutralised, fun and enjoyment are put to the background as it's all about chasing the dime."
