Antrim And Ulster Rugby

With Ulster rugby looking to play a game in a GAA stadium (Armagh, Omagh and Derry in the discussion) Would it not be possible for Antrim to play their games (if they would get good crowds) in Kingspan until Casement is ready? Corrigan seems very small and under developed

Be good to hear an Antrim view with both the footballers and hurlers making strides recently.

Rugby pitch is too small for GAA.

Let's just make one thing clear, a GAA pitch is almost half again bigger than a Rugby pitch so the reverse usage never works unless it's 7s your talking about.

Ulster Rugby have some brass neck to ask, let them take their oval ball to Windsor. Let them paddle their own canoe. GAA county pitches like Omagh or Armagh don't need 30 bullocks trampling it into dung.

GAA won't say no, same as they won't say no to the other shower because they be accused of some awfulness. Maybe some of the rugby schools that end might start to play gaelic football?

Not saying they should. Each to their own.

Ulster are perfectly entitled and better to ask and try something that would never have happened or even ve discussed years ago...
And gaa pitches wouldn't be trampled into anything by a game or two of rugby

No harm in asking, seemed to work well when they had games in croker, id have no issues allowing other sports in or giving them a hand, just sports people like the rest of us

In GAA and olden days terms I think the Lagan is the boundary. A bit like alot of Rosbercon being in modern day New Ross which is in Wexford, despite being the other side of the Barrow. They still hurl for Kilkenny.

Hahahahahahaha, rugby a laughing stock at the minute with all their disciplinary problems. You were very quiet on that front but if it was GAA you'd be on running them down. No more rugby on GAA pitches . Club lotto's , fundraisers, black tie dinners to keep our pitches and clubs going for that shower to use them, don't think so. Rugby and soccer have had their money for pitches yet Casement is still on the drawing board. Rugby and soccer can take a run and jump.

But refusal often offends.

No harm in asking and no harm in facilitating them if it doesn't affect our games. For an appropriate rent of course!

Would this be the majority view of GAA people in Ulster?

I went to soccer games in CP when they were there. I think the goals were on the 21 yard lines

Wouldn't be the majority. I wouldn't care less. They can have the pitch surely, for 25% of the gate and we keep the money from the concession stands .

Casement is only still on the drawing board because some of the residents around it in Andytown kept objecting to the planning. None of those objectors probably ever played rugby in their lives.

If it is, it's fairly backward in my opinion. There should be no issue with Ulster Rugby and anyone else who has the money being allow to rent the GAA's facilities. I have no problem as long as the price is reflective of the cost of providing the facilities. That being said we shouldn't be bullied into providing them either as Eddie Hearn tried to do and obviously failed.

Probably never played GAA either. Casement should be the premier GAA ground in Ulster, why didn't the rugby brigade develop Kingspan/Ravenhill to cater for big games. They are now going to the GAA for use of their pitches for rugby matches. It is a matter for Ulster GAA to decide on the issue.

It's the British taxpayers ( many of them rugby and soccer fans and players), who are paying for the redevelopment of Casement Park. Instead of castigating them, you should be thanking them.
