Maybe you should be more concerned about the state of Wexford Hurling.

Jack Savage has been named in the New York panel ahead of their Connacht SFC quarter-final clash against Roscommon this Sunday night. Kew (Galway) - Posts: 318 - 07/04/2026 20:51:26 2665158 Link 1 |

A good addition. Panel includes most that started against Galway last year and were competitive for 55 minutes then Galways fitness allowed them to win pulling up. The New York trip wouldn't be a big deal for Dublin, Meath, Cork, Down, Antrim, Louth, Wicklow, Kildare But for everyone else (where emigration has been a historic way of life) then it would be a big event. Especially if it was a 1 in 24yr trip. The bigger problem for New York is the timing and lack of competitive games otherwise. They play In April - then get an away trip in June and not other games really. They would be better off if they had to travel to Waterford the week before the tailteann cup for a qualification match - then stay on for an away first round match (if they qualify), then 2 home matches to complete the round robin. They could be rotated through the tailteann cup teams so two different counties get to travel out. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1842 - 08/04/2026 11:28:30 2665225 Link 0 |

I am. We find it almost as difficult to win a hurling All-Ireland as Mayo do to win a football one. :D Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3716 - 08/04/2026 16:29:05 2665300 Link 0 |

Think we have 5 hurling AIs won since Mayo won a Football one. Come to think of it we have more Football AIs too ;-)

New York and London should be allowed into the other provinces also. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1798 - 08/04/2026 20:31:41 2665326 Link 0 |

I dont think either of them would be winning any other Provincial titles either though.

Total myth. Mayo Gaa would, and often do, raise more money during a long weekend in New York than Kildare would raise in 2 years in total, that's besides what Mayo raise in London, Boston and the odd US sugar daddy. Kildare then spend infinitely more on hurling. There is no comparison whatsoever in spending power between the two. Similar story for half the counties on the west coast, Kerry, Galway & Donegal. Diaspora is the golden goose most midland counties just don't have. cuttothebone (Kildare) - Posts: 179 - 12/04/2026 21:47:07 2666026 Link 1 |

Possibly, but if you're asking a team to travel across the water to play a game (which NY appear to have to do more often) there has to be some accomations for that. We don't know the background here, what hotels were available and so forth. And I sincerely doubt the team are headed back to NY with a game on Saturday, so this trip is likely a 10 day excursion. There seems to be a lot of anti NY sentiment on these forums and I cannot understand why. We should be commenting the people involved for their efforts.

There's not much anti New York sentiment for theer football team. Arguably, their standard of hurler, would make them competitive at Joe McDonagh level if they get regular games. Lory Meagher teams last year weren't unhappy to see them win because they knew they won't have to play them this year.

I'm only asking for a trade off. NY are parachuting in for a semi final. Let the 2nd placed team at least host the semi final. In football: Fermanagh are hosting NY in a preliminary quarter final that is accomodating NY. Only asking for the same in hurling for the semi final that is accomodating NY.

As I've said, we have no knowledge why the game was played in Pearse Park over a Mayo venue. For all you know, it could have suited Mayo also. At the end of the day, we're asking a NY team to come over to Ireland so it is only right that accommodations are provided. And if Mayo were good enough to win the game, the venue is not going to make one bit of difference.
