Clare Playing In Gaelic Grounds

As I have said many times and people don't agree with me, playing at home does not give you a advantage, you have the same ability talent wherever the match is, Obviously Clare think so too

It's better to play THERE than in Cork which is much further away obviously.

Playing at home can give you an advantage, and sometimes a big one.

Am thinking specifically of the discussion about this more than a month ago now, when Wexford U20s played Galway U20s in Portlaoise on the night before the senior sides played in Salthill.

Wexford ceding home venue to Galway for that U20 match would have given Galway a big advantage over Portlaoise all right, because:
a) Much bigger home support
b) Galway players used to playing there, while hardly any of the Wexford lads (if any at all) would ever have played there before.

Granted, home advantage for Limerick in this Munster Final is not as big as advantage would have been for Galway there.

I think they think they will have more fans to cheer them on there than in Cork. And fans make a huge difference, as we found to our cost in Semple last year. The players who may be most at an advantage playing at home are the ones shooting for scores as these players will have subconscious markers, as in where the posts are relative to where they are. Be they floodlights, stand roofs, sections of seating, access points etc.

Playing at home is certainly an advantage in soccer as results in the premiership and in European competitions show. Man City drew 1-1 with Real in Madrid and beat them 4-0 in Manchester. It appears less of an advantage if at all in Gaelic games. My county Roscommon have a far better away record than home record against Mayo and Galway in recent years.

I personally don't think it makes a difference when you have very little travel time and the crowd is 50/50ish. The home advantage really counts when you are significantly outnumbered on the stands but from chat around the county this week there is an army of us looking for tickets and I expect us to travel in huge numbers

Not best pleased about this decision. I see they have the Ex-Players selling it in the media. I feel it should be in Semple. Just a few reasons:
Neutral venue obviously.
Best playing surface in Munster .
Availability of Hawkeye.
Personally feel it gives Limerick a psychological edge, they don't need given.
Clare play well in Semple(not historically but this team does).

People are right to disagree with you. All the evidence shows that home teams win more times than away teams.

I agree, but if you have a good and loud home support they are worth 2 to 3 points where they will sway a referee.
Happens all the time and that's the main advantage of a home game I think, but only if you have the supporters there in their numbers.

Don't think it'll make any difference to Clare..every Clare player has seen action there from schools hurling all the way to senior..they beat Limerick 5 weeks ago so it holds no fear for them.it makes practical sense to play the game in Gaelic grounds, just for supporters alone..I couldn't for life of me think why cork was mentioned as the possible venue..it will hopefully lead to a brilliant day and another Munster final classic..roll on Sunday week.

It does make things a lot easier for the Clare fans for. 4pm throw in.
Also of the 3 Munster teams to come out of the group, none of them lost an away match and all 3 lost home games .There's enough stats out there in sport to show playing at home is an advantage but hasn't proven to be this year

Since I have started following sport I have had the same opinion as you...it's the same players , similar pitches etc...
But the stats continue to deny the theory held by both you and I.

Examples :
2023 NFL Div 1- 28 Games
18 Home Wins
7 Away Wins
3 Draws

Premier League
Average Goals per game Home Team 1.63
Average Goals per game Away Team 1.22

Not sure is it pitch familiarity, fans support, refs marginal decisions or players having to travel further , but there is something there that is contradictory to both of our opinions.

You would want to have never picked up a hurl or played football to think that home advantage doesn't matter.
You know your own pitch better than any other and I do not understand how people don't see that.

A huge congratulations on winning the minor AI, Clare. I couldn't find anywhere else to post my congratulations. Is there no Clare hurling thread?

Cork's 80 miles from Ennis . Not the other side of the earth. People have traveled from Youghal up to Thurles for years to watch Munster finals. It is what it is, I guess. Good luck to the Banner on Sunday

Don't think there is. You could always start one!

Remember Cork never travelled to Ennis until they had to. In the past there were Home/Away arrangements with Tipp, LK and Waterford but never with Clare, from a Cork viewpoint

Ennis too small to do a deal with as was Walsh park for Cork hurlers over the years , no problem for football with smaller crowds .
The more I hear of people with no tickets for Sunday should Limerick v Clare have been on in Croke Park . Be 70,000 there , everyone would get to go and a lot of neutrals in capital as well plus both counties get a big game in Croke park before possible semi finals .
When Ulster football had huge demand for Armagh v Tyrone Ulster final ten years or so ago they moved the Ulster final to Croke park in light of ticket demand and had huge crowd .

I'm not sure, i think even if the match had gone ahead in Cork there would have been far less demand for tickets let alone going to Croker. Clare supporters have saved themselves a minimum of three to fours hours total travel with the game fixed for the GG and with the match being so accessible to both counties it has increased the demand. I think Clare have done the right thing and made the match as accessible as they can for their own supporters and did not bow to the obvious pressure to go to Cork.
Its going to be another epic clash but i'm hopeful Limerick might just shade it with the form the Gillane and Flanagan are in, DOD and WOD in the middle seem back to their very best and DOD for me has been one of Limericks best players so far this year and Kyle Hayes and Diarmuid Byrnes are also starting to really find form. If Hegarty can find another small improvement again from his last day out, i think we'll be in with a great chance.
