Is the O'Byrne Cup going to go the way of the Railway Cup? I note there is a "review" going to be taken of it. I remember a time when both competitions were highly rated. For a Wicklow player to he picked on the Railway Cup panel was a big deal - and I will say it before someone else does, Wicklow players through the years didn't have much to celebrate. Although they supplied many a fine player to that panel. The O'Byrne Cup was once a hard won prize as it gave the lesser lights in Leinster a chance to flex their muscles against the big guns. This new compressed football season has, I feel, sounded the death knell for the competition. It will be interesting to see if it can be retained in any format. Need more incentive, possibly a first round championship bye if you win it. Also agree with the railway cup sentiment, would love to see that or something similar back, I know its the best of each province but maybe have it as a pre game before the all ireland minus the 2 competing counties DCFCGAA (Derry) - Posts: 65 - 11/05/2023 09:58:08 2477496 Link 0 |
O'Byrne Cup has always been a good competition and drawn big crowds. Will be a big loss to the injured players fund which it brought in a fair whack of money every year. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3512 - 14/05/2023 08:47:37 2478225 Link 0 |
