If some people think 29 players crammed inside the 50 yard line is enjoyable to watch they are easy pleased. These same people seem to think that great players from the past who your father's and grandfather's idolised were only bog men who hoofed the ball says it all. tireoghainabu (Tyrone) - Posts: 352 - 17/05/2023 17:57:57 2479296 Link 0 |

Yes. Derry v Kerry would indeed be an interesting one to see. I reckon they are type of team that would give Kerry a few headaches. All shadow boxing for next month. Be interesting to see on final day if teams might be able to sort of pick who they might get to play in the next round! Could be some strategic use of the panel .... Armagh lost, Derry won and congratulations cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1685 - 17/05/2023 21:19:49 2479318 Link 0 |
No one is having a go at Armagh or Derry it was a very close contest to the end but very hard if not impossible for any team to play football when you have 12 to 14 players in your half forward line for most of the game . If any one goes to any undeage game at any grade it is a much better spectacle to watch so thats telling us all we need to know and rule changes are needed to keep 8 outfield players in each half of the field for the entire match ie 4 from each team.

Why? So the purists can get what they want? There are different ways to win a game of football. Different ways to skin a cat. My own view is that I like my team to be successful, not a bit bothered how that is achieved.

Very hard to referee that scenario though. Grand at county level where there are enough officials to keep track but at club level it would be very difficult. I agree with what you're saying though in general. Most of the Ulster final last Sunday was boring enough until near the end and extra time. I was listening to Thomas Niblock's podcast yesterday where Francie Bellew was the guest. Francie hasn't much time for modern football and reckons playing full-back these days would be a doddle. I know that here in Donegal the days of a young McBrearty, McFadden or a Murphy bursting through to make an instant impact at senior level appear to be long gone. Is it the possession at all costs style of play that is resulting in a lack of quality inside forwards? Or were the above lads just generational talents? Clifford, O'Callaghan, Walsh, Comer, Mulroy, O'Neil, just examples, not sure if we ever had as many top class inside men at the one time?
