Why Do Some TV Channells In All Of Ireland Show More Or Why Do Some Show Less Gaa Games Than Others

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tomsmith here
I was looking at the Television listings over the past few weeks and I noticed that some Television Stations showed very few Gaam games. I am talking about Stations that cover all of Ireland North and South.. Indeed I feel that up North the Gaa Gaels have to rely on the Southern Ireland Stations or indeed Station to view Gaa games.
As that Gaa is widely accepted as the primary sporting game in the Island of Ireland I just wonder why such bias exists

Do you ever tire of the wumming threads.
What channels are you referring to and you do realize the GAA signed contracts for television contracts which only allow certain stations show games

Ough Killing Fields from County Limerick ( what ahandle) you got
Yes I under stand that the Gaa would have contracts for important games .
But I understand that Counties like yourselves in Football could be described as non important Counties and as such your football could be watched ough

Its not simply a contract for important games. its a contract for the championship and agreed games. they simply dont want all games or more games covered if it reduces live attendances at games

Don't need to rely on RTE at all, BBC Ulster show their fair share of football but why not get off your backside and go. Anyway, I thought you wouldn't watch the modern day football , wouldn't hold a candle to the Cavan team who beat the mighty Kingdom of Kerry in New York.

Be even more fuel to fire when people realise Kerry v Mayo and Galway v Tyrone on GAA GO only

Since I revealed to this forums contributors that Tom is in fact a Monaghan man who enjoys trolling my own county, he's doubling down on his wind up posts, maybe thinking that we'll forget this fact. He'd be better enjoying his county's upcoming run in the All-ireland series than this nonsense.

It's all part of the unthought plan to loose as many viewers and people as possible to other sports - mainly rugby.

Put it behind a pay wall and people stop watching.

This year RTE will have shown more LOI games and URC games than hurling or football. If it wasn't for TG4 there'd be little on.

It doesn't happen overnight but slowly GAA games are becoming a lot less relevant.

Even Michael Martin has come out against Gaa Beo or what ever it is called.
At least RTE are showing alot of Gaa games.
I am taul that other Sports pay Television Stations that can be watched in Ireland a fee to show other Sports that are in competition for our youth.
So I say RTE have a think on the Route you are going and its never too late toturn back.
Just remember Tomsmith is nearly always right in what he posts

If you add the LOI and URC games together, then yes. But not if you treat them separtely:

GAA: 31 matches shown live this season
URC: 26 matches
LOI: 18 matches

I find him funny, yes. Its just that he won't come out and admit that he's from Monaghan. We welcome all Monaghan GAA converts down here.

Both the league of ireland soccer and urc rugby have far more games than GAA championship...
The 4 provinces play 18 games each so RTE bound to show a lot of them.

The GAA isnt becoming less relevant

Galwatford of 23970 posts.
As a senior post I always respected you views , but at time you stray,
But this time you hit the nail on the head when you commended "" A Good post "" while I do not like to clap myself on the back but most if not all of Tomsmith posts are very good.
But back to the the TV situation I am delighted that Gaa HQ reads Tomsmith posts because they came out with a clarification message / statement

Twenty-six games seem to work
On television in the URC.
Even fewer matches, boy,
Are screened on telly in the LOI.
But there are more games, ask your ma,
That get air time in the GAA.
