Upsets In 2023 Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Last weekend's upsets
Mayo beating Galway
Cork beating Roscommon

This week
It will be
Tyrone to beat Kerry
Monaghan to beat Armagh
Mayo to beat Dublin

But in reality I'll stick a fiver on each match to end in a draw
If even one ends in a draw your in the money

Mayo beating Galway is an upset? And Tyrone beating Kerry would be an upset?

For this thread any team that is an underdog with the bookies however slight would be considered an upset win

Yeah but in my eyes all games could go either way and I would nt be one bit surprised. The biggest upset would be Cork beating Derry and I fancy that.

If you genuinely think all games could go either way, you should bet on it. If your correct, 50 % of matches will end in the underdog winning or at least a couple of draws.

Go take Paddy Powers money off him.

If you like a bet here is a stat for you

Since 2012 (2013-2021), Every time Dublin have shot into Canal in second half against Mayo, they've won. Every time, they've shot into Hill in 2nd half, they've drawn!!

Keep an eare out for who wins the toss.

upsets now are almost forgotten about as quick as they happen, God be with the old days and a shock was just that..the big name team beaten was gone for the year...its game ontop of game now and if you win this Sunday you are out again next Sunday and will be brought right back down to earth..the big team you have beaten regroups and comes back and will still go further in the championship than the minnow who beat them....too many games now altogether, the novelty is gone as we know in our heart of hearts the big teams are going to make quarter or semi-finals anyway nine times out of ten..Clare in 1992 and Leitrim in 1994 are rightly and easy to remember..they got just reward for their upsets..no time now to celebrate such a win or anything as with this rediculous system its one Sunday after another etc..

Monaghan getting the better of Armagh was the only upset last week giving 9 out of 47 to date in football.
One outsider this weekend in the hurling
Galway 11/4 to beat Limerick

That was hardly an upset though.
Also Monaghan should have won it in normal time but for a load of wides.

It's not what anyone here thinks is or isn't an upset but teams priced 2/1 or better with bookies . Bottom line there isn't too many .
Will put a list up if each of these perceived upsets by bookies at year end .

Odds i checked had Monaghan v Armagh basically finishing in draw after 70 mins (how it turned out)

Had Monaghan two weeks to prepare I believe they would have won in normal time.

That's where you can pick up some value, if you think a team has been over priced. Doesn't happen often of course as this thread shows.

The four hurling and football semi semi finals will most likely go as books suggest, but the only value I'd see is a big bet on Limerick at the odds to win it outright. Bearing in mind that they were not far off 1/2 before a ball was thrown in.

Just turning to camogie. A lot of good work is being done at club and youth levels in Antrim but they're out of their depth today in Croke Park. The last few weeks have been a harsh dose of reality for the Antrim girls. They've still a long way to go.

You won't get 10/11 Limerick now.

No joy for Galway so still at 4 upsets out of 23 possibilities in Hurling.
This weeks football has 2 Outsiders ( 2/1 or greater )
Monaghan 5/1 v Dublin
Derry 3/1 v Kerry
9 outsiders out of 47 have won year to date in Football
