westmeath beating louth will be the shock of the year

Replying To OpenStand:  "Going by Patricia power odds each week I will only regard a team as an upset outsider if they are 2/1 or greater, there's 9 matchs this weekend with 8 falling into outsiders ie 2/1 or greater .Offaly/Longford is tighter in the betting so no real outsiders . So in week one we have
Antrim 10/1
London 13/2
New York 11/4
Clare 3/1
Waterford 5/1
Carlow 3/1
Wexford 11/4
Roscommon 3/1
Not sure any of them will win but Clare or Roscommon be best chance of upset"
Rosscommon are a great price!

I'd fancy Tyrone to bounce back in style this year after the flatlining of last. Still have the guts of the team that won All Ireland, and that alone makes them contenders, whether they go route or make the group stage after defeat.

Antrim to beat Armagh would be an upset although reading the posts in the Cavan forum it would seem that Armagh have got a "bye" already.

Roscommon beating Mayo will not be a shock and beating Galway after that not a shock either.

New York have a decent starting 15 named
Depending on fitness this could be the year they get that win.

Maybe you should put €10 euro on Antrim at 9/1 Goldrick and then you would have € 10 euro less when the match was over.

Looking at the NY team while the win will ne historic I don't think it'll be an upset. I'm sure Leitrim are aware but they'll also be schmoozing at events. Not boozing until after but their normal diet and training will be completely gone out the window.

Longford could upset Offaly footballers on Sunday. We always get a tough match from the Longford men, this will be no different. No one seems to have included this possibility.

Replying To Ollie2:  "Louth getting to a Leinster final would be an upset. The last time they reached the Leinster was back in 2010. Before that it was 1960. The last time they won it was back in 1957. Louth only reached one Leinster semi-final since 1998 and that was in 2010. Big game against Westmeath in the Leinster Quarter-finals just over two weeks away were there is never much between the two teams. If they beat Westmeath they will play either Longford/Offaly or Meath in the semi-final. Longford beat Louth in 2020 in the Championship and Offaly beat Louth in 2021 in the Championship. Louth have not beaten Meath in the Championship since 1975. History is against us."
Ahh Ollie my old friend Highly possible. They on easier side of draw. Probably their toughest match will be Westmeath. I'd be astounded if Meath beat either the way they're playing. In my 50+ years following Meath I have never seen them in such disarray and tbh clueless. We are in serious trouble and will be very lucky to get over either Offaly or Longford but I'd expect either Westmeath or louth to easily account for us on less something drastic has changed since league. So for me it's a Dublin louth final.

Should have done my Clare - Roscommon double . Three upsets out of eight this weekend even if New York took penalties to get the job done .
Only two matchs next weekend and 2 qualifying outsiders
Fermanagh 13/2 to beat Derry
Monaghan 9/4 to beat Tyrone

Westmeath beating Louth would not be a shock at all. Westmeath have far greater pedigree in championship football in recent times than Louth do. Under MH, we have won only 1 of our 4 championship games in the last two years and while Kildare hammered us in the championship, Westmeath were far more competitive against Kildare in the Leinster semi-final. If anything, Westmeath should be favourites.

I had Clare, Roscommon, NY and Limerick -6 in hurling

It's a real killer when a team wins AET/pens

None of the 7 potential qualifying upsets came up today making 4 out of 17 to date in football.
Likewise none of the 4 in Hurling came up despite Antrim going close drawing making zero out of 4 to date.

In hurling Clare at 9/2 were a hurling upset ( 2/1 or greater ) winner over Limerick with Antrim & Westmeath losing meaning 1 winner out of 7 matchs to date.
