The Heineken Champions Cup is the premier club tournament in Europe. If you want to compare it to Gaelic football, compare it to an All-Ireland final, not a League final.

Rugby still on a high after the League of Nations team winning the grand slam…. 3/4 of them at it won't know who is playing or what is happening

Isn't Leinster Ulster a quarter final or something like that, so comparing it to an All Ireland final is hardly valid. Anyway the games today and tomorrow are just league games at the end of the day, great to win but none of the "life and death" of a championship knockout game in any sport so can't be surprised if the knock out rugby game gets the bigger crowd.

Not really a like-for-like comparison, the Champions Cup is an international knockout tournament after all. And there are only four rugby teams in the country.

Not comparing like with like here, Heineken cup is equivalent of All Ireland championship while league is comparable to URC.

As a neutral supporter I have being trying to buy some tickets for the match today. However the tickets that were available on line to neutral supporters have been very poor all week, and I have ended up with tickets near the corner of the Hogan. I have been on line since last Monday. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 633 - 02/04/2023 10:29:44 2468222 Link 0 |
Why would it be a 'sad day' when Rugby is more popular than GAA or are you just trying to troll? You do know Soccer is just as popular... do you have a problem with that as well?

The matches in Croker this weekend are meaningless. They are just a day out in Croker for some teams while others will have one eye on the first round of the championship next weekend. Jack L (None) - Posts: 3141 - 02/04/2023 12:42:36 2468237 Link 1 |
Enjoy the matches today Letsgetgoing. Hopefully two cracking games of football await.

What was the attendance yesterday? Never more than three quarters there at any one time, but must have been over 60,000? BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3136 - 03/04/2023 09:20:34 2468450 Link 0 |
45,041. Still larger than half of the Premiership games over the weekend. Not bad for a bunch of lads who had to be up for work this morning. Unpopular as it may be, I think Saturdays games shouldn't have been in Croker. Those games were never going to get to a big enough crowd to generate an atmosphere in such a big venue. I get the whole 'everyone should have their day in Croker' thing, but it doesn't do a great deal for supporters or players to have finals played with an echo. The upside I guess was that everyone could scuttle back up the mostly empty stands to avoid the rain. LongfordgaaAbú (Longford) - Posts: 574 - 03/04/2023 12:02:33 2468490 Link 2 |
If GAA going to keep the League finals, firstly need to give all teams 2 week gap between start of championship. macca999 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 1142 - 03/04/2023 12:36:24 2468498 Link 1 |
Why are you comparing the attendance to the PL attendances? Also, every PL match had a full ground over the weekend.

Yeah strange one and people from all over the world go to PL games too so another reason not to compare, I was in Old Trafford for a game in November and a couple from Singapore were beside me.

... to show by comparison just how impressive it is to have 45,000 people at a league final in an amateur sport. By any measure that is still a very impressive fact. Having 80,000+ at later stages of All-Ireland Championship is simply phenomenal.

It must be the longest 90 minutes of your life. The stadium usually empties swiftly to give people a chance to get back to London and Singapore

I'm a Spurs fan, been to couple of games this season. Every game, there are a large amount of Koreans in attendance. It's all down to Son Heung-min.
