The play offs between the different divisions in 70s and 80s were great crack. First time I ever saw Dublin playing Cavan was in Breffni around 1978 or 79. Huge crowd. Cavan were in 3 at time i think? also remembers seeing other exotic teams like Antrim around that time, and never since! BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3778 - 28/02/2023 13:14:10 2460943Link 0
The first 4 rounds of the league can be on consecutive weekends. After a weekend off, the remaining 3 rounds and the finals can be played out. It will give all counties a weekend off before the provincial championships begin. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 9231 - 01/03/2023 11:19:08 2461138Link 0
I don't agree… I think the current system with 4 league finals is spot on… Good even games in each division generally and league finals and relegation battles make it more interesting…. Laois been crowned National league winners in the 80's despite operating out of Division 3 was farcical…. Leave well enough alone… the league was tampered with far too often… ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4243 - 01/03/2023 11:35:57 2461147Link 0

Tyrone not playing that bad? Compared to what? Defence is very poor, and continuing saga of player mismanagement has lost them e.g. R Brennan recently, he's badly needed in that "defence". Also the Dromore lad gone last week or so, and far worse than him being started. What is it now, is it 11 payers gone since the AI win? Entire team looks demoralised and playing at ¾ intensity. Tyrone will be lucky to make it past first round in Ulster c'ship. Dooher was a first-rate player, a legend on the pitch. But there's a touch of the Roy Keane about him, very driven himself; not naturally suited to player management in 2023. New management desperately needed; team being wasted. I more or less expect Tyrone to lose nowadays. Unless Kerry send the B team, there's no way that Tyrone will beat them. points50swiththeargyllsonthewrongfeet (Tyrone) - Posts: 320 - 01/03/2023 11:49:08 2461153Link 0
Don't know what is going on with Sludden. Seems to be the scapegoat all the time. Peter Harte can do no wrong and Mc Shane is an embarrassment. Still I wouldn't give up, there are a few teams just as bad. Everyone blowing Armagh up yet they only are a point in front. Saynothing (Tyrone) - Posts: 2451 - 01/03/2023 15:39:34 2461239Link 5

Whatever about the preliminary rounds of Ulster and Leinster starting early, it's a joke that Connacht and Munster start so early when they only have a handful of teams tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1633 - 04/03/2023 12:22:34 2461740Link 0

Has the rule about giving a penalty and a black card if someone is through on goal, but outside the penalty area, and taken out of it been done away with? Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1928 - 04/03/2023 20:38:06 2461831Link 0 |
Doesn't it have to be a "black card" foul? The Armagh lad had his arm pulled, but wasn't pulled down. Not a black card IMO. MayoDan (Mayo) - Posts: 497 - 04/03/2023 20:58:57 2461834Link 2
A lot for Tyrone to do tomorrow v Kerry. Early start for Kerry supporters, travel safely. Saynothing (Tyrone) - Posts: 2451 - 04/03/2023 21:14:54 2461838Link 3
Didn't realise it had to be a black card tackle. Silly rule so. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1928 - 04/03/2023 21:30:12 2461846Link 0
It's sad to watch Tyrone playing without the passion. Kerry will have easy pickings tomorrow. Dooher was a great player but I'd say he's a hard guy to please. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 921 - 04/03/2023 21:40:56 2461851Link 0
Seen Roscommon get two blacks for arm pulls last weekend in Clones and they weren't goal scoring chances like the one for Armagh tonight. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4192 - 04/03/2023 21:52:30 2461854Link 0
It being a goal scoring chance has no relevance to the black card rule. Refs get a lot of stick when they make a mistake, but giving a yellow card last night was the correct decision. MayoDan (Mayo) - Posts: 497 - 05/03/2023 09:50:08 2461869Link 0
cynical play stopping goal scoring chances was one of the reasons it was brought in. My point was on our own incidents they were arm tackles not pull downs and a confused Niall Cullen gave a black instead of a yellow twice. Refs have no consistency on black card awards, simliar incidents different cards week on week. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4192 - 05/03/2023 10:35:14 2461883Link 1
No better team than Tyrone to come out fighting when written off. Great win for them. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11807 - 05/03/2023 14:26:21 2461923Link 5
| Just finished watching Tyrone/Kerry..disgusting to be watching the carry on of grown men on both teams..constant niggling, pulling, dragging and sledging..it must be tempting for a player to give a belt of a fist when he's surrounded,on the ground and opposition roaring into their face..also total lack of respect for refs in all games when giving out cards, completely ignored by players getting them..if this is what juvenile players are watching how are they expected to have any respect for officials..I noticed it in both matches yesterday and in the match just finishes..like to get others opinion in this..
