Should Tailtean Cup Team Of The Year (TOTY) Have Only Two Representatives From Any One County

Viking 66

What I suggested that representation b elimited to 2 players per County.
I say this as Cavan have been Ulster Finalists recently and as such a lot of those players have tasted the Big time .
The Top two players in each County that deserves to be Honoured should be Honoured .
It dosent need to be like the all stars.
Again look Sean Quigley , on his day the greatest exponent of the Gaa, but will he ever get a nomination, unless Tomsmiths brillant idea is taken on Board

In response would it be fantastic to see,
Quinn,
Beirne,
Heslin,
Quigley be honoured for participion.
When is/will these wonderfull exponents of the GAA Game be honoured.
Some are never likely to be on ateam that will win the Tailtean Cup.
Wake up its not all about people playing on Teams that won provincial finals a few short years ago.
I am all for honouring the lessor known Gaa players that is why I still say a maximum of two players per County."
Why dont we just hand all players an all-star too then when were at it.

I dont agree that its the best players should be honoured that played Tailtean Cup.
If you look at why this cup competition was set up it was to give lesser know players and teams recognition.
This is not happenening with so called team of the year.
Once could advance the theory that the entire team could come from the two or last four in the competition.
When is Quigley fom Fermanagh ever likely to feature on a winning Tailtean Cup team.
So lads before you criticise Tomsmith or the great Mrs T thing on the injustice that this one sided selection has done tremendous injustice to good players on poor teams"

Most likely before any Cavan player, Tom.

And Tom! You forgot the question mark. The ?, Tom. Never forget the ?. Cardinal sin, Tom!

It's not necessarily an injustice, when you sign up to play our games, you do so knowing that unlike most other sports, geography, and not talent, will quite probably determine how far you go (one of the reasons so many kids choose to play other sports imo).
A sympathy all star given out here and there won't be much consolation and even if it was it'd be a hollow award.

The further your team goes in the championship, has a bearing on the number of All Stars, including Tailteann Cup, awarded to players.

the team of the year is a team of the players judged to be the best of the tournament not a couple of players from as many counties as possible.
The best players should be recognised regardless of if their county has 10 others on the team or none..
If "insert name here" from fermanagh provides good enough performances in games then he will be rewarded.

Yes but then the recipients have played well in more games. If a player plays well for only one game for a team knocked out in the 1st round how is he more deserving of recognition than a lad who plays well in 3 or 4 games? Best to scrap the lot of them. It's a pointless subjective exercise at best.

Viking 66 from away down in Wexford

Yomsmith here from Cavan Gaels the hreatest footballing in Cavan in the past 20 years.

Viking while you are asenior poster like myself you indeed hit the nail on the head .
Take the Counties that were knocked out in the first round, no cameras, very few reporters to file a report on any outstanding players.

Compare that to the players who played in the final, away up in Croke Park, all the headlines , numerous reporters, Tv cameras.
So no doubt you drove home that nail with your Eastwing hammer to nail the point that players that play a lot of games have a better chance to be recognized for a Tailteamm Cup TOTY place.
Its a pure injustice to good players on lessor known County Teams

Name any sport that has its team of the year with a criteria similar to your idea?
None do because it would be ridiculous. Counties that are knocked out early dont get any(many) players on team of the year because theyre not particularly strong teams in the main.
of course teams that play more in a knock out competition will have more players in a team of the year it isnt injustice. its life and the norm in sport.

Really?
I'd never have thought that based on his history of posts or his posting style. Never....

How dare Garmin of 26 posts to imply that Tommsith a senior Poster of long standing good quality posts ( guided by the great Mrs T who descends from a great Cavan Gaa lineage ) is taking the Piss when Mr Tomsmith makes another great suggestion on how to improve the Gaa family and preserve the great Gaa tradition.
To expand on the Tailtean cup T O T Y sure lesser know Counties who are knocked out on the first round have no chance of having a representative.. If you take Cavan for instance we were Ulster Champions in the last few years in the Tailteann Cup final this year , sure we could have had 10 representatives on that team. It totally unfair to the Sean Quigleys ect ( He of Fermanagh fame) that one County get five or six representatives and several other Counties get none . Spread the awards out and more will benefit.. And sure like the All stars not always do the best players be honoured
