Well the great Neil McGee has retired from county duty. What an unbelievable servant to Donegal football. His dedication & drive will be sorely missed. There's many a full forward who could tell a tale or two having coming up against him I'm sure!

What a legend.. Will always remember his wee smerk on his face when Stephen o Neill tried to shoulder him and fell flat on his arse.. Conor McKenna tried to do the same and failed. We'd have beaten Tyrone if he'd didn't get injured on the pitch on 2021.. Slán Abhaile Neil.

Legend of a player, he was the man at full back around 2011/2012, 3 All Stars, 5 Ulster titles, national league title and of course, Sam Maguire. Ulster club with Gweedore too. Glittering career. A wonderful servant. Made his championship debut back in 2006. Great longevity and dedication, through the good and the bad. Iconic player. Enjoy retirement Neil.

Don't need to say much more than 'legend'. Will be talked about in 50 years time in Donegal and beyond. Neil will be the barometer for any future Donegal full back. Just a shame he was under used last year largely due to injury but certainly should've been used against Derry at some point especially if fit enough to be named on the bench.

Fantastic and underated full back. Rarely injured up until the past few years. His honours club and county speak for themselves. Great character off the field as well. It's only when you try to replace a legend like Neil that you realise what a fabulous player he was for Donegal.

A true warrior for the cause, a favourite of the Donegal fans and the nemesis of his opponents, his dedication is an inspiration to anyone of what can be achieved in life by hard work and commitment, a glittering list of medals and trophies he won with club and county and also 3 all-star awards to go with it.
Naturally strong as a bull augmented by how he looked after himself, think I read in Jim's book about Neil always having his weights with him in the boot of the car.
That time Stephen O'Neill tried to shoulder Neil as he was soloing out with the ball and O'Neill crumples to the ground like he just ran into a brick wall and Neil just keeps on soloing out like nothing happened will always live in the memory of just how tough he was.
A famous face will be missing from the team now and I'm really sorry to see him go but time or tide waits for no man, he will hopefully play many more years for the club.
Happy retirement Neil, you owe the Donegal fans nothing in fact it's the other way round, thanks for all the great days you helped give the people of Donegal. an absolute legend of a man who will never be forgotten by the fans.

One of my favourite memories is of him torturing Mattie Donnelly 4 or 5 years ago in a Saturday evening league game in Ballybofey. Donnelly was after releasing a video of himself working out in the gym, lifting weights and I think he was boxing in it as well. God only knows what he was saying to Donnelly, but every time I looked down the field, McGee was flexing and doing a kissing the guns routine. Donnelly didn't kick a ball that evening.

One of Donegals greatest ever, definitely in the top 10 ever to wear the Green and Gold.
