Agree we need to do something. A year or 2 back I suggested a sitting centre forward, and thought Glen Malone would be the man for the job. I now think himself and Furlong offer too much going forwards, so maybe someone else to sit between our 45 and their 65 in case of turnovers. This lad could drop into that space inside our defensive perimeter when our opponents are attacking. And be no further up the pitch than their 65 when we are attacking so he can get back in the event of us being turned over.

I watched the game on gaago aswell can someone explain why porter got a black card. John hegerty said it was for celebrating when Louth missed a goal scoring chance Wexfordgaa (Wexford) - Posts: 311 - 16/04/2024 09:05:58 2538246 Link 0 |
It's kind of like unsporting conduct. One of the analysts reckoned that if that's going to be enforced there's going to be a huge amount of black cards over the summer.

It's hardly black card stuff. Will players get black cards for scoring game is getting more sanitised ya won't see it happening to Tom o Sullivan or mick Fitzsimons later in the year. A joke. Will Clifford get one for celebrating into the hill if he gets a goal. Will con will glass not a chance. Wexfordgaa (Wexford) - Posts: 311 - 16/04/2024 09:36:04 2538264 Link 0 |
Agree 100%. Pathetic rule.

John Hegarty said it was for provocative behavior, never knew that was even in the black card remit under Sunday. TerribleFootwork (Wexford) - Posts: 1760 - 16/04/2024 10:25:38 2538282 Link 0 |
Whatever about it being a pathetic rule, Sunday's application of it was an absolutely bizarre one. The rule regarding the black card in football is: Category II Infractions - Cynical Behaviour 5.10 To deliberately pull down an opponent. 5.11 To deliberately trip an opponent with hand(s), arm, leg or foot. 5.12 To deliberately collide with an opponent after that opponent has played the ball away or for the purpose of taking that opponent out of the movement of play. 5.13 To remonstrate in an aggressive manner with a Match Official.. 5.14 To threaten or to use abusive or provocative language or gestures to an opponent or team- mate At an absolute push, that last one about a provocative gesture might just about make it. But a bit of a roar and a fairly harmless body check at a moment like that is hardly what the rule-makers had in mind. Far more likely they were thinking of far more abusive language and/or things like the middle finger salute and the V sign. If we're going to see black cards throughout the summer for things like Porter did, then we're going to see a lot of them. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2622 - 16/04/2024 10:39:13 2538287 Link 0 |
I couldn't understand what that card was for on Sunday, now that I've had a chance to look at the recording I'm even more confused. And how can a referee issue a black card for a perceived offence but not give a free ? Yellaman (Wexford) - Posts: 126 - 16/04/2024 22:45:53 2538455 Link 0 |
I see our president Jarleth Burns is proposing that we go back to all irelands in September.Looks like common sense might prevail. Or maybe he didn't think this through.

Have you ever heard of the politcal term kiteflying? I don't think Burns proposed it just more threw the suggestion out there, in his heart of hearts he knows a Sept final is a non runner and might be using this as a vehicle to get an Aug Final, remember he has a son and son in law playing intercounty so has his finger on the pulse.

just looked at it again the first penalty was a free out seconds before the 2th one was as harmless as the leitrim one Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2892 - 17/04/2024 17:43:19 2538678 Link 0 |
Good point. Yeah it may happen that we will get an August football and hurling final but at least it would be better than the way it is now. Maybe in a year or two we could get back to September completions. I can understand why players would prefer a shorter intercounty season but surely an extended playing season gives our games a much higher profile. To remain as we are would result in 6 months of nothing in intercounty. Lets not give soccer and rugby a free ride.

Still think the ideal solution is less intercounty games, spaced further apart, with club games in between. It worked for a hundred odd years until the greed set in. Greed from management for players time, greed from public and the administrators for more games etc etc.

I think by going back to September would be a disaster for club players . As a coach it's hard enough to get lads to play league as its meaningless starts and finishes too early in Mid soccer and rugby season . now the underage tied to iadult intercounty ,underage club players would be in the same boat , with underage County players not allowed play with thier clubs in some of the completions. A good run in all ireland section would put there season back to mid August or Sept even . To keep a conveyer belt of players Coming through all counties need the underage clubs to be playing competive meaningful.ganes all through late spring into summer and autumn . Not starting real championships late summer early autumn would destroy clubs and leave door open for other sports to exploit our obsession with inter County. And keeping the paying public happy who want to just attend inter County Hugh profile games . Where its the grass roots that supplies the spectacle in the first place . Standards and numbers will dwindle if it goes back To September finals without allowing for the club player . Play inter County over the late autumn winter army spring as the pitches are there now leave the good weather for the clubs Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 301 - 17/04/2024 22:04:39 2538733 Link 0 |
You can't put the genie back in the bottle. That system was OK when we had knockout intercounty and knockout county championships. Those days are over. Before Jarlath Burns goes aby further, he should head for Rathangan, a rural dual senior club in a dual county with county footballers and hurlers at senior and U-20. Then find space for all those teams in the calendar. Armagh is not a dual county, it's a football county with pockets of hurling. As are nearly 20 counties, which is why this crops up all the time. 48 weeks 2 codes County and club U-20 club, county and colleges also overlap. It's the best it csn be, near enough, at present wendellgee (Wexford) - Posts: 29 - 18/04/2024 14:28:35 2538858 Link 0 |
Just to clarify to people from other counties that this refers to Rathangan in Wexford, rather than Kildare. Home to the St. Anne's club of Liam Óg McGovern and Diarmuid O'Keeffe and others. For what it's worth, Jarlath Burns knows one of them well :) Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2622 - 18/04/2024 15:42:57 2538870 Link 0 |
Sorry about last post, folks - thought I was posting to one of the national threads where structural changes are being discussed, rather than a specifically Wexford one. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2622 - 18/04/2024 15:45:18 2538871 Link 0 |
I agree. I only made that suggestion for the lads who want the AI finals in September.

All wexford football town teams were well beating the weekend, all going backwards, playing in low division underage too, Lockerroomboy (Wexford) - Posts: 472 - 22/04/2024 12:35:37 2539835 Link 0 |
Suppose soccer in business end of their season probably keeping teams from having full compliment ur right re teams losing although checking results sarsfields 2nd team won 2 games during the week . Don't think any of towns teams rake league very serious same as most clubs its more fir getting games for who's zvailable.and not with county teams, lads in college exams ,lqorking weekends ,eaving cert etc Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 301 - 23/04/2024 13:49:26 2540134 Link 0 |
