According to X the issue was a problem with the generator - does that mean that the ESB supplied to Wexford park is not strong enough to power the lights - I guess it does and to upgrade the power supply would have cost more than installing the generator.

Have the times here for the league but just dates for championship https://www.gaa.ie/news/gaa-master-fixtures-for-2024-published/

Don't know for sure that the Galway game is 7 throw in but that game and Waterford V Tipp are both on GAAGO that day so given there's no lights in Walsh Park I'd say its a sure thing we'll get the later throw in time.

In fairness to Cathal, he did have a ( tenuous) connection with Gorey, im told it was through his partners address.
Not so sure if Ben had any connection with castletown.

It's not uncommon for floodlights to be powered by a generator rather than the mains power supply. In Bellefield, for example, the generator is just inside the turnstiles at "the town end". And I was in Ferns (as in the club, not the COE) shortly after they installed their floodlights last year, and happened to be parked by the building that they have their generator in.

My understanding (but I could be wrong) is that it's more economical in the long run to run lights off a generator, because after it's installed and paid for, you're really just paying for the diesel used when the lights are actually on. On the other hand, running them off mains electricity means you're hit for a big wallop of extra standing charges from your electricity supplier all year round.

Let's just agree that drawer is the one marked "tenuous" then. :)

I think there are another couple of files in it too, but maybe the less said, the better!

Most clubs I've come across actually use generators.

I believe aswell there are grants available for once off purchasing of generators to cover the cost which helps.

I'm certainly no expert on the matter but 2 mishaps with the lights that are a year old is a bit embarrassing especially considering the significant investment in them.

We have a generator for the main pitch lights, but the Astros are run off the mains.

I agree. Am not trying to defend them over this. Was just pointing out it's not unusual to use a generator.

Thanks - I guess also the ESB do not want this type of activity as its a sudden surge in usage which plays havoc with their supply generation.

I never thought of that to be honest, yeah it avoids any surges on the grid.

But even at that they definitely may investigate what's happening in Wexford park, we have lights in our club working off a generator that's ancient and never had any issues whereas in Wexford park they've had what? At least 2 issues in a year or so.

Think he should go strong. We need to hit the ground running in London.

Only factor could be Sigerson Cup is starting Tuesday and Wednesday, think its only Pauric & Cian Hughes and Conor Kinsella involved in that, not sure if any of the younger players are involved in freshers or a start date for that competition.

I've a feeling that the team named won't start as named.

What a great performance and result. Well done to John Hegarty and the lads. Some turnaround from this time last year in Patricks Park. Even the weather was better!!!!
