That's the worry. That's why I was suggesting they do the same again. Hopefully the lads can get a positive result up in Laois which would encourage people back too.

Agree, while not a great result, they know they should have won it and hopefully will not make the same mistakes again. At least they didn't lose, one point dropped, I know it could be the difference at the end of the league but they still have a long way to go. Its unfortunate that we are playing Laois next as they would be favourites to top the group, we could have done with a nicer game but its winter football and anything could happen.

in their defence they played a lot of very good football, they defender very well, put a lot of great moves together that often broke down due to a bad pass, but its january and they have only been together a matter of weeks, we created 4 goal chances which is a good sign, it was clear they have a style/system of play at last and thats takes time to perfect, the ref was not to blame for us not winning, but he was dire, i pitied the players on both teams , trying to do their best with a lad who seemed to have his own preception of the rules, laois will be a test, ud imagine they are a cut above div 4 standard, team selection will be interesting Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2974 - 01/02/2023 14:07:48 2455797 Link 0 |

Laois are in Division 4 for a reason as are the other 7 teams in it. Everyone can beat everyone in this division in my opinion. We will need at least one win on the road in the coming weeks so we may as well start on Sunday. I don't think there's anyone on the panel who is uninjured and available to change that 26. I suppose I'd start Tubritt and Brosnan instead of Hughes and Kinsella if it was me selecting the team but I guess Hegarty is looking to the future and I don't blame him for that. If he's not given at least 2 if not 3 years to try and build a team what was the point appointing him in the 1st place?

100% agree terriblefootwork. Senseless and insulting post. Far too early in the season to know how things will pan out. We may not be world beaters, but no team deserves to be spoken about like that. The comment was ignorant and hurtful.

We don't know what is going on behind the scenes, perhaps 20mins is all the believe he could manage given the game plan in place. You cannot just have a lad on the team just because he has experience - there has to be a use for him in the strategy they are playing.

i was up, hard to know, first 5 min played great football, looked well up for it, then went out of it for about 10 minutes, went 1.6 to 0.2 behind, but got back in to , nolan was doing a mountain of work along with great defending by cushe and hughes and with kinsella a real life wire in the forwards and he got a great goal to bring us level by half time, most of the second half was nip and tuck, even with nolan gone off injuried , it anyones game into last 5 minutes, then our legs seemed to go, and they got a few pts with ease, overall a vast improvement on the london game, our kick outs gave us problems, i suspect we will see no 1 keeper back v leitrim, my first look at cathal walsh, he did not look out of his depth, got his hands on a lot of ball, the leitrim game is now a big game in so many ways,

It was most certainly an improvement on last weekends display against London. Similar to our hurlers, physically we struggled quite a bit with the size and directness of some of Laois's bigger men. We started quite well, and when we attacked with pace from deep we caused them a lot of trouble, along with direct early ball into Rossitor and Ben. Our issues seemed to arrive in attack when Laois got back into shape and got numbers behind the ball, outside of Kevin O Grady we don't have many others who can actually beat a man 1 on 1 with strength or pace which caused us a lot of problems, especially in the second half when I think all we scored was frees. We rarely got by defenders and got shots off which would be a concern. Laois got their purple patch off Wexfords inability to win our own kickouts, if we didn't get out short we didn't win a whole lot, bar Niall hughes who I must say battles to the end every time I see him play. Again our physicality let us down in this department but it was more down to Laois having a height advantage in 3/4 of the positions on the field. Their goal was also a killer as it was a kind of nothing ball that ended up going through to their full forward who finished it. I was very impressed by Cushe at corner back who I taught was excellent and Hughes battled admirably at full back against a much bigger man. Laois got a lot of joy out of a direct ball to the square. Eoghan Nolan and Sheehan were big losses at half time. I taught Kinsella physically looks out of his depth at wing forward, he got a poachers goal but was fairly non existent for much of the game. I taught management we're slow in making changes as I personally felt him and one or two others were bet half way through the second half. Overall had they won last weekend this would have been a positive trip, with some positives to take and room for improvement. However you just feel not taking the two points at home to London will have a big impact on the rest of the league ahead. Hopefully Porter and Coleman are available in two weeks time.
