Replying To KillingFields:  "Thurles wont be used by any other sports. It isnt suitable for away fans as in fans from other countries. Nowhere near enough accommodation etc."
Ah, but they always have very good 'Mate Tays' in Thurles.

To paraphrase Mrs Gilhooley in Killnascully, 'I am not in the habit of replying to myself' but this is a time to do so. When I think of the Mate Tays in the Castle and Hayes's, I am transported back to another age, the time of dust rising and 'schmoozles' in the Square, to the Salad Days of Munster Hurling, to big bellied men like Ned Rea and Babs Keating, Hartigan and Roger Ryan to those delightfully involved Corner Backs McDonough and the highly popular Clem Smyth (especially in Waterford, and several other iconic duos battling it out in torrid encounters on scalding days, when the sun blazed down from cloudless skies. It really is a shame that game has almost become so terribly civilised. If I was not the kind of fellow who parrots on too much about the 'old days' I could go on in similar vein for ages. Them were the days

Replying To Square_B:  "Cork nearly bankrupted themselves in the 70's developing PUC and 50 odd years later have left the GAA 30million in debt rebuilding a stadium which was always going to be underutilised. I have to question how many stadia the GAA actually needs and how many counties actually need the facilities you describe."
I think every province needs (and has) 1 x 40-50k stadium.
Every county should have a 15-20k stadium which can hold most championship games involving the county.
I once had the mis-fortune of visiting Aughrim for a game and to say that the facilities were abysmal would be an understatement.
That said, the toilet facilities in Thurles were absolutely awful for the All-Ireland hurling quarter finals this year

Replying To Square_B:  "The PUC model? You mean the 'model' that all us gaels are paying for? Cork GAA over extended themselves building PUC... actually it was a shambles. Central Council now own the debt. No more than Mayo GAA and the McHale park shambles, every last penny should be paid back to the GAA and the quicker the better."
Yes indeed and Limerick County Board were bankrupted for years for developing the White Elephant that was the almost totally under utilised Gaelic Grounds. No wonder under age hurling was so poor for so long in the county.

Only two games have sold out at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, a soccer friendly and a rugby reserves match.

Maybe I'm wrong but wasn't Cork vs Limerick this year a sell out?

I could be wrong, I was quoting from somewhere else. The capacity at Pairc Ui Chaoimh is 45,000. The attendance for the Cork vs Limerick game this year was 40,000, according to Wikipedia. Oddly enough, I cannot find any other source for the attendance for that game.

There is a world out there beyond the GAA."
There is the other 50% too

Ah ok, never mind. 40,000 is still a great crowd

Is this basically similar to Ballygunners subs playing Wexford's trialists in a practise match?

I don't think it will be, there's a ton of debt to be paid off so it'll be used for all manner of sporting events for the next 20 years.

Especially in second half, crowd really got behind Munster. Boks A very like Bulls a few weeks ago, bash and kick (poorly) brought little else. Munster well up for it with their half-backs running the show.

Rugbyites must be the only sports fans who could get excited about a meaningless friendly!
