Great to see this man getting a vote of confidence from the Dublin County Board. He has quietly done a wonderful job with the teamI wish him continued success.

I'd say they have a good chance in Leinster… after that…hmmm

Must be no other options at least ones that are better so they decided to stick with Dessie?

Few would have predicted Dublin to go two years of not reaching the AI final and relegated to Div 2 after they won 6 in a row in 2020.

Football is an unforgiving place, great teams have disappeared from the spotlight before, it provides more evidence how good their golden era was. In saying that they played better and were closer in this years semi final than many expected so they're probably not far away if they get luck with injuries.

Delivered an all Ireland in his 1st year. I'd take that from O'Rourke!

People laughed at me on this when I said just that in 2020

Well those that are seldom far out have the Dubs at 5/2 for Sam with Kerry just one point tighter at 6/4, everyone else pretty much outsiders starting with Galway at 9/1.

3 consecutive Leinsters. Can't argue with that.

Dublin had a golden generation who were beginning to retire 1 by 1 by 2019. Didn't take hindsight or a football genius to see they wouldn't have been continuing to win. Yet you still had hysterical people on this predicting 10s and 20s in a row.

Agree Dublin panel weakening gradually over last few years, especially the bench. Notwithstanding that they were certainly genuine contenders for the last two titles, so 8 in a row was not out of the question, small margins. That said a lot of small margins in the 6 in a row too, could easily not have happened.

It would seem from the outside that there is no obvious replacement. Dublin won 4 under 21 all irelands between 2010 and 17 with different teams and with some quite dominant teams. There was no two in a row with the same super team. Farrell was the last man to won in 17 and they have not won the under 20s since. They've not been in a minor final since they won in 2012 so on that basis there isn't an underage manager coming through the way farrell did.

The likes of mccarthy, Cooper, rock from 2010 can't have much left and the replacements for them don't seem to be as good so that will be a tricky to manage.
It would seem strange that dublin aren't a bit better at minor with the numbers advantage. With kerry coming into their pomp and with dublin weakening it could be a roll reversal of the 10s when it comes to kerry.

In fairness there's not a huge difference between winning 8/10 and 10/10.
2009 was the last time they failed to make a semi final, they've won most of those semis and they've won every leinster bar one since 05, most of them without breaking sweat.
No harm to be a bit concerned.

They are the second most successful team in Football history. They have probably been contenders most years. Same as Kerry.

They won 6 in a row. An amazing achievement. But nowhere near the 10 or 20 in a row hysterical fans of other counties were predicting when saying the Dubs should be given less money, should be split in 4, etc etc.

Dublin are a good team and can beat any of the top teams on their day. Granted the majority of the players are past it, but they'll be hard bet for sure. Dessie is a good manager who is getting the best out of a limited amount of players

The stopped clock is always right, for a split second, twice a day, whereas the one that is fully functioning may be always slightly out.

If it wasn't for Jim McGuinness it would have been eight-in-a-row, an unprecedented run of success in gaelic football. The likes of Jack McCaffrey and Paul Mannion retiring early also had an effect IMO, they would walk on to any other county side.

Surprised that Dessie has been kept on, given that the Dubs have been in a downward trajectory for the past two seasons, and Dessie's tinkering hasn't helped that. But maybe there are few contenders for the post?

The Dubs will still be reasonably confident of getting to the All-Ireland quarter-finals and anything can happen from there.

I can see why Dessie wanted to stay on anyway.....when he has a player that played no league and 2 weak teams in championship and gets nominated for an all star.....he must have some talent at his disposal
