The greatest GAA manager of all time retired. Big loss to hurling but deserves to sit back now and enjoy watching on.
What he has achieved will never be equaled. They may not have won this year but I don't think any other manager could have gotten as close with the team he had.
He won't be reading these forums but Congrats to him and a great managerial career. Wasn't always his biggest fan growing up but you have to acknowledge greatness too.

For sure. The Greatest GAA manager of all time. Been the bane of my life as a hurling fan for most of my adult life but hopefully he enjoys his retirement and the next lad in isn't half as successful!!!

I wonder was it a case of go or be pushed? Some rumblings going on during the week I heard. He'll be hard replaced but I'd say King Henry has to be the favourite to replace him.

Can't argue with his achievements, made life hell for Wexford for years, those Kilkenny teams were superb though, interesting times now in Leinster.

Def not pushed…this year above all years. I'd be surprised if it's not Henry that gets it. Has to be the front runner.

Won championships with great teams and won with not so great teams.

Good post. Agree with every word. He got every drop out of the players he had every year he was there. None more than last Sunday. It was interesting he said after the match he never so proud of any team he ever coached than the team that went to battle last weekend.

There might be a few nervous Galway hurling fans out there.

Fantastic manager with great results and achievments through hard work and loyalty.Kinda feel for the new guy coming in as he will always be judged on his results versus Brian Coadys results.Interesting times and of course all the talk will be about King Henry returning!!

I'd be surprised if Henry leaves Galway after a year though.

In regards to Cody, what can ye say.

The greatest there was, is and ever will be in my humble opinion.

I know it's often said but don't think we will ever see another like him.

That's the way to keep the talk about hurling on all Ireland football weekend.
Waited 24 years just couldn't wait 4 or so days.

Strangers things have happened... I was surprised to hear it during the week... the man owes nothing to Kilkenny but look if he felt it was time to go sin é. I'd hope that no one in Kilkenny was pushing him to go. Not sure who else would be in for Kilkenny, Eddie Brennan maybe?

Amazingly was involved in 26 All Ireland days as player and manager. Mind blowing.

I think that is how you truly judge how good he was. Yes he had great players but brought on players who probably would never have made it to inter county level. Players who did not have the attitude or conform to what he wanted, they changed or were moved out. A true leader with the courage to make the hard decisions that we will not see the likes of again. Brian Cody the greatest hurling manager of them all.

It's not to dis similar to Cahill last year. The big difference for me thought is the mileage shefflin has to do to get to Galway. In the back of his head though he'd have to be thinking the next lad could be kept in the job for years too - unlikely these days but if he wants the job and they want him it's going to be really hard to turn it down

The spirit he created in his team's was unbreakable and his records speak for themselves, the blueprint for successful management.
A man who never cared what others thought and demanded ultimate loyalty to the cause.
The word legend gets thrown around far too freely these days but Brian Cody is a living legend.

Thanks for everything Brian. Enjoy your 'retirement'.
As for Shefflin, I'll be surprised if he's even considered, let alone his own feelings. I'm sure this situation happening would have arisen in his interview for the Galway job. As for the KK job, he's missed the boat this time. Plenty of other good candidates about.
