Some unbelievable players missing out like Sean Cavanagh, James McCarthy, Brian Dooher, the Brogans, Stephen O'Neill, Graham Canty, Matty Forde, Stephen McDonnell and others but you can only pick 15

A team not including Peter Canavan is just nonsense and not worthy of even discussing.

Going on the favourite and not the best team and limited to one player per county

Tierney - good craic (very un-armagh like)

John keane - 2 all stars playing for westmeath.
Mick lyons - that punch from the cork player and he didn't even flinch
Joe higgins - classy corner back

Declan meehan - the speed and that goal
Graham canty - cork got terrible when he retired
Jack McCaffrey - big smiley head on him in the parade (and the electric pace)

Anthony Tohill - boring enough choice this but what a great player
Niall Buckley- great player to watch in his pomp

Brian dooher - hard as nails. Love some of the stories of his commitment. Also gave a complete masterclass against donegal in an ulster semi final one time.
Ciaran Mcdonald - the points from distance he scored
Diarmuid connelly- the skill levels were off the charts.

Declan browne- was superb one time against donegal in croke park. A pleasure to watch.
Ciaran donaghy - great winning mentality and great personality.
Conor mcmanus - another class forward, loved his back and forths with Neil mcgee.

1 Cluxton
2 Marc O'Se
3 Neil McGee
4 Keith Higgins
5 James McCarthy
6 Karl Lacey
7 Jack McCaffrey
8 Brian Fenton
9 Seán Cavanagh
10 Brian Dooher
11 Donnacha O'Connor
12 Diarmuid Connolly
13 Michael Meehan
14 Kieran Donaghy
15 Conor McManus"
That's a great team. But while I'm no Kerry fan on account of their winning more AIs than anyone else how can you leave Cooper off a team of favourites from this millennium? I'd probably put Gooch in 15 and Mcmanus in 14. Hard to drop Star but he wasn't half the footballer to watch that Cooper was.

Replying To slayer:  "Interesting thread.

I'd watch a lot more hurling than Gaelic football so don't feel qualified to pick a 15.

But in terms of enjoyment I'd have to pick out three players: Ciaran Kilkenny of Dublin, Lee Keegan of Mayo, David Clifford of Kerry.

Kilkenny because he is a superb athlete and his work rate for his team has been outstanding. He has the skill and positional nous to be an asset to any team through the ages.

Keegan because he's just a cut of old style defender meets modern day footballer. Willing to get stuck in, brave, skilful and he makes games more interesting when he's playing.

David Clifford is possibly the most skilful player in football. It is a joy to see him receive a ball with his back to goal. What happens next is anyone's guess but it is usually a score.

As a Limerick man, John Galvin was an outstanding player. I think he would have made any county team when he played for us."
Clifford's football brain and his instincts are incredible. His level of consistency doesn't look to have dropped since he was a minor and he hates losing. He'd be a great in any era. We're privileged to see him kicking ball in this era.

Hi Lockjaw. Based on your criteria (particularly enjoyed watching / not from your own county) and on mature reflection, I decided to have a second go at it. I was very impressed with your own team.
I focused on very skillful and athletic team players who were outstanding in their day. Some of the substitutes would get on most teams but a couple of them were more robust shall we say! (Still worth watching!)

1. Stephen Cluxton (Dublin)

2. Lee Keegan (Mayo) 3. John O' Keefe (Kerry) 4. Karl Lacey (Donegal)

5. Graham Geraghty (Meath) 6. John McCarthy (Dublin) 7. Seamus Moynihan (Kerry)

8. Jack O' Shea (Kerry) 9. Anthony Tohill (Derry)

10. Trevor Giles (Meath) 11. Dermot Connolly (Dublin) 12. Peter Canavan (Tyrone)

13. Matt Connor (Offaly) 14. David Clifford (Kerry) 15. Con O' Callaghan (Dublin)

Substitutes:
John O' Leary (Dublin), Mick Lyons (Meath), Paudie O' Shea (Kerry), David Hickey (Dublin) just to have a go at Paudie in training! Brian Mullins (Dublin), Michael Murphy (Donegal), Colin Cooper (Kerry), James McCartin (Down).

Great team! It's all a bit of craic. I left Gooch out of my team which is a crime almost. It's just a personal choice that I went for Maurice Fitz instead of him. I loved Maurice's languid style. He just seemed to play the game at his own leisurely pace and had an absolutely ridiculous skillset.

I could list a ton of other players that I enjoyed watching over the years like Corkery, Canty, Cavanagh, McManus, Mary Clarke, Stevie, etc

It's favourite team, not necessarily best.

That's my take on it in anyways.

Did you see Matt Connor play Letsgetgoing? One of the greats. I only saw him on the telly. If he was in his pomp today he'd be a superstar with all the games on TV and how media is compared to his heyday.

Canavan was very fortunate to have played almost all of his football in an era before blanket defences took over the game.

What about Armagh in 2003? He probably had the skill and vision needed to unlock such a defence against anyone else too. I'm sure he played against it in numerous internal training sessions also.

To put things into perspective for the younger readers, Shane Walsh had a fantastic game for Galway yesterday scoring 9 points against Kerry and lost. Matt Connor scored 2-9 against Kerry in the 1980 All Ireland Semi Final and also lost.
He was top scorer that year in the championship that year with 5-31 (Not including the All Ireland Final).
Some player.

Matt Connor was nowhere near as good as David Clifford for starters. The Biffos haven't had teams since the y2k 'bug', but you'd have to give them credit for PR, when they do have teams. GOATs all round. Greatest footballer of all time, greatest ground hurlers of all time, greatest GAA moment of all time, greatest GAA/golfer of all time etc.
