Replying To smallfrank:  "Telling it like it is here. The Kerry keeper no great shakes either but I believe it's the number one issue for Galway to look at for next year"
First choice goalkeeper has been injured since league final.Serious injury that took a long time to sort and he is only back now.Hopefully he will be back next year.He is young and well able to play.Since league final the galway backs have been savage at protecting the goalkeeper.Hopefully this will continue. So honestly give the lads a chance.

Replying To Gleebo:  "Ok, Gleeson probably wouldn't be first choice, all things being equal. But it seems to me like Galway have been chopping and changing their goalie for the last ten years. All fine and well to say that he had to step up, but it's been done in the past. Alan Keane for instance wasn't first choice before Galway won Sam in 2001?

On Clifford, I would also beg to differ a little bit. To me, scoring off a mark should be considered a point from open play, given that you have to win your own ball first to get the free shot at goal. Clifford scored three from open play, two marks and three frees. And those marks were monster takes to be fair.

Kelly is a Rolls Royce of a footballer, who's at his best with wide open country ahead of him. I get that Galway lost Mulkerrins to injury this year, so maybe next season he will be played further up the pitch.

Benches win games these days, given the increased physical demands of Gaelic football, longer matches etc. It was where we fell down against the Dubs and was probably a factor for Galway at the weekend. Joyce probably needs to develop more squad depth, but that might come with some of the recent All-Ireland winning underage sides entering the fold in the years to come."
First choice keeper had serious injury after league final which people didn't realise.

Replying To howdareu:  "It was a perfect shoulder. Because other lad was the other side it looked worse. But look at replay, it was a perfect shoulder challenge."
The first shoulder was fine, but Barry coming from the other side created a sandwich after McDaid took the hit. The ref had no option but to give a free.
I thought Hurson did a great job overall. There will always be a few incidents that people can question, but that would be the case regardless. I think he was very fair and switched on for the whole game.
On the game, congratulations to Kerry. I definitely see it as an opportunity missed on our part. We didn't use Comer at all. He was hugging the Cusack sideline for a lot of the 1st half. This was making space in the middle, but I'd much prefer him to be getting the ball in there, instead of others.
Our lack of a bench or trust in the bench is a known issue. To not use all of your subs in a match of that intensity and importance is very unusual in today's game.
The lads put in a massive effort. Shane Walsh outstanding. I've said before that he can do things that no other player can. McDaid had a huge game too. Liam Silke was brilliant on O'Shea and I was very impressed with Jack Glynn. He has matured throughout the year.
It'll be a long road back. There absolutely no guarantees. What I will say though, is that there are a number of teams who should have genuine ambitions of winning an All-Ireland next year, which is a big positive for the game.

Replying To galwayford:  "Nonsense, it was a blatant foul by White. A dangerous tackle and he should have been carded for it, maybe even red."
Oh stop. Opinions like that are the reason that physicality is being removed from the game (lamentably).
I think the benefit of the doubt should always be given to the aggressor in a shoulder charge and unless it's blatantly dangerous, like to the face or back, no way should a red card be considered.

Replying To unclegerry:  "It was a soft free for sure but Comer did touch it on the ground just before that.. The shoulder on McDaid was a soft free as well but swings and roundabouts as they say.."
Take a look at the free Hurson gave against Heaney on 52:16 where he went in with a strong arm to knock the ball out of a Kerry mans hands and you look at the one he didn't give against Killian Spillane in the John Daly incident. Same tackle, one punished and the other not.

I repeat Brian Gavin's explanation of the sandwich: "Kerry would argue that they themselves were unfortunate to have a free scored against them in the 64th minute when Gavin White performed a perfectly legal shoulder on Cillian McDaid. The problem with that is McDaid collided into Jack Barry and as the Galway midfielder was sandwiched and had no opportunity to fall from the tackle it was a free". Brian Gavin, Irish Examiner, Mon 25 July 2022.
I well remember a great Kerry forward being sandwiched by two Dublin backs in an AIF, being stretchered off and hospitalised. An awful sight to see. Whatever about your physicality, a player's health and welfare should always be the paramount.

Replying To baire:  "This thread is about Gaelic football and in this instance Galway people's reaction to a poster from Limerick who tried to belittle both Galway and Connacht. By 1966 Galway had won 7 All Irelands. The story of hurling in Galway and Connacht is very different, not comparable. I don't want to start a discussion on hurling here just to say that since Galway didn't have competing rivals in the province their energies and interests remained true to the way the game was played before the GAA was formed i.e club hurling and that was the case until the 1970s."
Point well made Baire- probably should have let it go. Best of luck in both codes next year.

'Hardmen' footballers of that 70s 80s era were big into the 'sangos', especially elbow 'sangos' to the head area. It wasn't so much a sandwich between two players, as an elbow 'sandwich' to the gob, or if the short arm elbow blow landed to the jaw area, you might actually get a gob decommissioned for a few weeks for wiring!! The 'youngster' that Meath have just appointed still has a piety about him, whenever he delivers his by now no doubt parented 'manly' verdict, about the style of football that characterised his era.

Conor Flaherty was available for selection definitely for All Ireland semi and possibly for Armagh game. Can understand not dropping Gleeson because it is disruptive to change keepers but cant understand why he Conor Flaherty not listed on the 26

With that in mind I assume you're in favour of nanning combat sports, and making all sports non contact, if h&s is "paramount".

We got some breaks, Kerry got some breaks. Agree the Daly one was slightly harsh at the time of the game but these things happen and you have to drive on. It wasn't the last play of the game, we just couldn't create the opportunities we needed. We got a good bit of luck in the first half with the bad wides Kerry hit too.
At the end of the day it's been a great year for Galway, our squad will need improving if we want to keep competing and eventually get over the line. The last two years have shown that football championship is wide open again. Fair play to PJ and the lads was a pleasure to follow you this year. Let's hope hope it puts a bit of pep into our club championship and young lads keep improving

You're a tough man! Fair play to you! Is that a hard or a soft keyboard you have there?

Well done Kerry. Hard luck Galway.

Enjoyed the game. With a bit more will and fitness i feel Galway would have won it. 14-12 up i think and got caught. Galway need a bit more devilment in them.

I thought it was a very enjoyable game and fair play to both teams. Galway just didn't push on like they needed to. It was as if Kerry's experience from 2019 stood to them and they closed out the game.

Just a word on Padraig Joyce. A lot of praise went Cian O'Neill's way in media outlets as we got nearer the final. I think Joyce put Galway football number one by bringing in a strong coach like that. I think Joyce deserves a lot of credit for being a strong manager but willing to not be the only voice in the dressing room.

Damien Comer didn't have his best day and if he learns from this and Galway unearth another scoring forward they are a fine team. Thanks to both teams for a fine game of football.

Out of curiosity, did anyone see Paddy Tally on screen? I don't remember seeing him, maybe he wasn't at the game? Seems strange as we saw plenty of Cian O'Neill and the likes of Donaghy for Armagh.

Because he wasn't available (match fit) to make the 26.

Replying To Gaa Fan:  "I was plain to see that the Galway player was holding his opponent by the arm, not just grab and let go.
If he did not make the call he should not be on the field.
It did not cost Galway the game as the number of Kerry players not up to snuff on the day did not cost Kerry the game. Bottom line is that on the day more Kerry players produced than did their opponents, O'Brien, two Cliffords, two Spillanes, Foley, G'Sullivan, Murphy, Burns."
The dogs in the street know that was not a free.If you attended matches which I'd say you don't,week after week a referee will make a wrong call and then the next minute he will award a free to balance it up, that even happens in croke park.It happened on Sunday when everyone said Gleeson should have got a black card,he definitely evened it up with the free against Daly.

Replying To Gaa Fan:  "There is no such infraction. Two players are legitimately charge (shoulser) from either side simultaneously provided both are shoulder to shoulder."
Before you post nonsense you should read it and process it before posting it.I'll break your nonsense down for you.You are saying that a player running through with the ball can be hit from both sides by 2 players at the same time leaving him in a heap on the ground and that's legal. That isn't what happened on Sunday. The player was hit and another player was coming in to tackle him and fouled him.To much amarican football me thinks you are watching.
