It's certainly not serious its a bit of fun mainly though there are posters who are very knowledgeable and informative. I'm sure Cork will win AIs in the future you have too many hurlers not to. No need to get upset in the meantime for the next few years while you are waiting just because alot of us are traditional types who still value the Provincial Championships!

Great! You'll be happy because the provincial championships (2 provinces) should be around for decades. I couldn't care less one way or the other! Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 08/07/2022 16:05:37 2430527 Link 0 |
Think you were spoilt by the 2 5 in a row Cork teams of the 70s and 80s Rockies!

Forgot we won so many. I guess only counted all Ireland's . We had a few tasty wins over Wexford in the 1970's also so let's hope history repeats itself, as it often does. I think the provincial's meant more in the 1940's, 1950's when people often cycled to Thurles, to watch Ring and Doyle flake each other. In this day and age travel is not an issue, but let's roll on regardless!

Most Munster finals back in the heyday of Munster championship ( 1940's, 1950's) were played in Limerick, where at least was train station. The Gaelic grounds in Limerick was usually packed to rafters…. Long before my time of course !!! I believe that the provincial championships have run their course . Notwithstanding, that Galway are a hurling force, playing in Leinster, adds weight to abolishing the competition. Doubt if the GAA will even look at this, and we're essentially wasting time here, but if they do..as they are at it.. also look at the league… essentially a competition nobody wants to win!! Railway Cup competition was huge in the 1950's. Look where that went!

Hope not. We've a pretty good record against you League and Championship over the last 10 years or so hope we Davids can maintain it against the Cork Goliath!

Sad too about the Railway Cup. They didn't promote it properly or have it properly organised at a good time of year. Was an opportunity for players from weaker counties to play top level opponents and win something meaningful against the best. You probably want the provincials abolished and a professional hurling closed shop superleague established with a grand new ground in the City to host the Cork Buccaneers, or Patriots or whatever, that all of us all over the country are paying for. Back in the day you used to win things regularly according to the history books.

Your management and players made a big effort to win the League Rockies

Probably use it to try out new players.

Nearly all the players who started or came on against Galway in Semple started or came on against Waterford in the League final. The League final team was pretty much what your management thought your best team at that time was. Nothing experimental about it. But I agree there should be a bigger gap between League and Championship. Also maybe if the Championship went back to being straight Knockout instead of being just another League then the real League might become more significant again as a test of a team over many games. I think its good for the clubs to be hurling in the summer again the way it used to be with a knockout hurling championship. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15731 - 09/07/2022 16:28:28 2430682 Link 0 |
I meant for next season, Pat Ryan should use it to blood Under 20's players and wouldn't be surprised if other counties experiment similarly. League winners are not remembered !

Its also time for him to show the door to a couple of the guys who just aren't up to scratch and been shown up time and time again, he needs to unearth a few bullies who can hurl too. Cork hurling has been far too nice for too long.

When Cork has a four in a row in Football, you can pass disparaging remarks about the Footballers of the proud and haughty Model County. They were the first side to achieve a Four in row in either code. Also hark up and take note that they were the first county to have done a 'back to back' in both Hurling and Football, a feat only equalled thirty four years later by Cork
