Title decided by ref. error at the end. It was a free out. Disgraceful error. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1736 - 03/07/2022 14:54:44 2429408 Link 3 |

What an unbelievable last 10 minutes out of Tipp, and Offaly asleep at the wheel. If ever there was a case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Though I don't know how that Tipp lad stayed on the field (sorry, didn't catch the names) when he took the Offaly lad out in what was clearly a cynical and deliberate foul. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3148 - 03/07/2022 14:56:43 2429411 Link 2 |
Total injustice there. Offaly will feel robbed. They should have had 2 blatant frees in the last few minutes which the referee didn't give. Shameful. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9818 - 03/07/2022 14:56:43 2429412 Link 2 |
Hard luck Offaly. Tipp hung in. CC2020 (Kilkenny) - Posts: 173 - 03/07/2022 15:12:59 2429414 Link 0 |
Gutted for Offaly. Thought the refereeing at the end was terrible obvious free out missed. Disgraceful behaviour from Tipp corner forward in throwing the hurley and hitting the Offaly forward on the head could have had very serious consequences.Players have been hit with hurleys accidentally or otherwise before with catastrophic results. I thought there was a rule when a clear goal chance was being denied with a foul that a penalty would be awarded. Offaly Forward was through on goal in that circumstances. God such a sickening way to lose , Offaly probably contributed to their downfall they didn't manage the game well with the extra man but the last free was a free out all day long and ref was close to the play too. Lots for Offaly to be positive about despite the heartbreak of today, hurling needs a strong Offaly team a strong Offaly with their great colourful support wiring so much to the championship. Well done to Tipperary they hung in there and snatched it. JimmyNail (Leitrim) - Posts: 282 - 03/07/2022 15:29:40 2429416 Link 2 |
An embarrassing episode for the Association today. The people who appointed the ref should be held accountable for their decision. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2152 - 03/07/2022 15:30:18 2429417 Link 4 |
I thought the ref by and large had a good game. But how often have we seen a ref give a red card, and then proceed to let the team down a player away with murder? There's a Phd waiting to be written by someone there. As people have pointed out there were at least 2 free-outs he was right beside but ignored. That said, Offaly shouldn't have needed his help. They had the game won in their heads and took the foot off the pedal, while Tipp responded magnificently to the sending off (another thing we've seen many a-time, with another Phd waiting to be written!). festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3148 - 03/07/2022 16:24:06 2429426 Link 0 |

How can you say they had match won in their heads? Ridiculous statement. They gave it everything, kept their discipline while Tipp behaved thuggishly. Ref made 2-3 incredibly basic errors that were crucial. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2152 - 03/07/2022 16:54:34 2429432 Link 1 |
Tipp dirty? Nah, I can't believe that.

Cool the jets. Trust me, as a Galway man I'm never sad to see any Tipp team beaten, but if you can't see the difference in intensity between the two teams for the last 10 minutes where Tipp outscored Offaly by six points then perhaps you might want to go back and watch again.

28k in attendance? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that is the biggest attendance at Nowlan Park in years.

Correct call by HQ to have that final in Nowlan Park, serious atmosphere that would be lost in Croke Park. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3610 - 03/07/2022 17:31:49 2429454 Link 1 |
