Replying To dickie10:  "what happens in the event that Trim v Kildalkey ends in a draw tomorrow evening? i presume a replay the following saturday? daylight wont allow for extra time tomorrow evening, with a 5:30 throw in it would be very close to 7 pm before extra time starts, giving 15 min break at half time and 10 mins break usually at end of full time, usually 3 mins break at half time in extra time and 3 mins on average injury time in both halves that would be near 7:40 when game is over black dark at 7:40 this evening."
You have an excellent point there….wonderful thinking by the people in charge.
However luckily for them a replay is possible the following weekend, if it was the other s/f a replay would not be possible as Ratoath are involved in the football s/fs on the same weekend.

Charlie Ennis no words.. one of best goal keeping performances I've seen in Pairc Tailteann

Great game this evening and Trim were deserving winners. Kildalkey as County champions give it everything and we're always in the game, losing their top marksman Paddy Conneely after 10 minutes was a big blow to them. Charley Ennis was brilliant, some unreal saves. Trim took some excellent scores with Dwane and Toher defending well and delivering great ball into the forwards. Trim bench very strong too when needed. Referee didn't endear himself to Kildalkey with some fouls not given as frees and soft ones given against them. Overall Trim had the firepower to always keep ahead, they worked hard all over the field hunting in packs at breaking balls and will fancy their chances against either Kiltale or Ratoath in the final.

Trim just about did enough to get over the line but I was surprised that Kildalkey continued to shoot for goals when Charlie was in such good form. The games was so close that, if they had taken their points on the last two saves, they may have won the game.

I read the report for the game that is on this site and noticed the following:
Major controversy was averted when a mistake in referee Mark Reilly's tally - he credited them with one point less than they had actually scored in the first-half. The mistake was corrected and proved to be the difference between the sides at the finish.

I am not sure that this is correct. Trim lead by 1-10 to 2-4 at half time. Mikey Cole got a super point early in the second half but that was not recorded on the scoreboard. From what I could see the referee noticed this and pointed it out to the officials on the sideline. So, as far as I could see, he did not make an error and was just pointing it out.

Trim will need to improve on that performance especially in the way they coughed up goal chances if they are to hope to win the final.

How were trim deserved winners if you have clearly stated the ref was bias towards trim not awarding certain blatant frees to kildalkey and giving soft frees to trim. Great game both teams hurled well but if I was kildalkey man I would have sour taste in my mouth after some very harsh refereeing decisions which had a rather large effect on the game

Ratoath were very impressive against kiltale who really weren't at the races. It could have been worse as ratoath missed alot of frees. Whilst this is no slight on ratoath but how can a team be bet 3 times in a championship and still progress. This really needs to be looked at. Again some really strange refereeing decisions and clear frees not given. Everyone wants the game to be allowed to flow but blatant fouls need to be blown.

I thought the ref was fair enough and there were a few calls could have went either way. didnt think there was any bias in it at all tbh. Kildalkey only have themselves to blame for losing that one as they must have missed 3 or 4 very scorable frees and then went for goals when they should have taken their points. Trim were just far more efficient with their shooting.

Great to see Ratoath have finally woken up, especially great to see Gavin McGowan taking charge up front. But I agree with the above comment on progressing so far with only one win and a draw in their group. The pitch was horrid greasy for the third game and that was before the small shower happened.
Great crowd in Navan yesterday, but charging €15 and then €2 for parking? Ah come on.

Two very good points there. Ratoath through on 3 points and also on score difference. However as a small defence of this present set up virtually all 12 clubs had 'something to play for' in the last round. In the A group five of the six were still in contention for four places and Dunboyne could have avoided relegation by winning the last match. Four of the six were still in the hunt for two places in Gruop B and Longwood would have been relegated had the not won their last match, even then they could still have gone down had Boardsmill won their match. So all six games counted to some extent.
On the refereeing issue you are right blatant fouls MUST be punished, if not the fouls will get more and more robust. Smart players will very, very quickly realise what is let go and will push the boundaries. That is human nature.

Dont htink you will hear Kildalkey whinging about the referree, its swings and roundabouts, some years you get them some years you dont.Charlie Ennis was unbelieveable best goalkeeping perfermonance I ever seen. Trim bench was stronger i thought. That game will stand to Trim in final. It should be a real good final, Trim might be able to improve more. But could be extra time again.

Two dual clubs beating two hurling only clubs in the final. Could be the template for the likes of Kildalkey/Kiltale/Rathmolyn to become dual clubs.

Kildalkey will rue their missed opportunities thought trim were poor, Alan Douglas and James Murray very quiet by their own standards. Trim held out though and they will take a lot from the resilience they showed to see it out.
Thought kiltale were very very poor. Hard to read what ratoath are all about considering how depleted kiltale were with no bench to make an impact.
However if Gavin McGowan is on the form he was yesterday he will cause trim issues.
Will make for a cracking final as was their meeting in the group stages with trim pulling away in the end although being with 13 players for majority of the game compared to ratoaths 14.. in saying that the man ratoath lost that day being Gavin McGowan

Sorry but that's just a nonsense comment.

Will be a serious game. Douglas hasn't really been at his best this year but does bring the experience, but looks a bit tired which can only be down to the commitment he putting into both codes. Murray was quiet but possibly should have been deployed further in.

Mcgowan is a serious operator as are a lot of the ratoath lads so both teams will need to be at their very best to beat the other.

Agreed. Two town clubs with growing populations in comparison to to small villages depending on a tiny pick

Are the McGowans and many more Ratoath players not equally committed to both codes as well. Remember that Ratoath are STILL involved in the SFC, Trim are already out.

makes for a good game, 2 teams who will want to go at it physically so the man in black will be important. I think both forward units are better than the defensive units so IMO it will come down to who ever can get the match ups right. Gavin & Daithi McG, Podge Hanrahan Cian Rodgers are the 4 real dangers for Ratoath, Douglas, Murray, J Cole & Dowling for Trim. be interesting to see how they match up on each other. Trim will benefit from winning while playing poorly against Kildalkey but not sure where Ratoath are after beating a well below par poor Kiltale team who were missing key players, it proves any of our strongest teams missing anyone makes it very difficult. Going to reserve on my prediction for another day closer to the final and after the man in black confirmed.

Fair play to Ratoath, serious spell in second half to win.

Final is very interesting now. A team firing on all cylinders and a team that struggled to get over the line and played poor for spells.

I agree ratoath are flying, but I think the month off killed kiltale and trim. Trim were lucky on Saturday but so were ratoath in the group stages.
