Replying To Lockjaw:  "Well both Keane and Ronaldo had a dig at their team mates even if Ronaldo's was more thinly veiled. Ronaldo wanted out for sure and he's got his wish now. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. I see Keane had a bizarre pop at Newcastle in his analysis yesterday. As a Newcastle fan I would not want Ronaldo next nor near the club. Eddie Howe is doing a fantastic job and has developed an attacking, pressing team who work extremely hard for each other. Bringing Ronaldo into the equation would be ludicrous.

Keane appeared to suggest that Ronaldo would be affronted with the suggestion Newcastle would look to entice him to the North East. Laughable stuff."
Yea it would be madness to take him in, think howe would have the sense not to take him anyway, wether he has a say in it or not is a different story.

I agree it would be laughable if Newcastle as a football team brought Ronaldo to the club, he wouldn't suit their style and it would be challenging for Howe. However reading and listening about Saudi Arabia's potential 2030 WC bid, having already signed Messi as an ambassador I think the Newcastle Ronaldo link is possible.

Ronaldo is unlikely to want football in the Saudi Arabia league just yet which is where Newcastle could become the compromise on wages he was offered in the summer. Howe is building a very good team and appears to have been allowed to manage the football department; we may just be about to see the first tensions since the takeover and I know who my money is on winning any potential debate on direction.

Wales out, just a pity USA and England couldn't both loose.

England will probably account for Wales. Iran v USA will be interesting, bit of history to game from political issues.

Not quite. If Wales and USA win Wales go through

I think the English have uncatchable goal difference for Wales.

If Wales and England finish level on points Wales go through on the head to head.

no i think Wales need a 5 goal swing, its certainly goal difference not head to head.

Head to head rules are UEFA not FIFA. Goal difference is the decider.

If USA/Iran draw, Wales qualify with any win over England. If USA/Iran don't draw, Wales need to beat England by 4 or more to qualify.

Goal difference, goals scored, head to head, 'fairplay', in that order, will decide tiebreakers.

A couple of great games today. That's what the World Cup is all about. Teams meeting other teams they wouldn't ordinarily play against from other confederations and going at it hammer and tongs. South Korea very very unlucky to lose. They laid siege to the Ghanian goal at the end but just couldn't find an equaliser.

I watch the WC for the football. 2 Good matches today. There are issues re the venue, but the football provides entertainment in the bleak midwinter.

Hopefully as we reach the knockout games the standard will improve overall. Much has been said about the suitability of the hosts, but one good thing is that the football will shorten the winter and run-in to Christmas. Brazil have looked very solid so far and they seem to have a very happy squad. But you could also make a case for Spain, France, England and Portugal. I can't see Argentina doing it. Too much pressure on them and their squad just isn't as good as other teams.

Interesting to see the effect of weather conditions and age on many of the so called stars who are in their 30s. Hazard, De Bruyne, Ramsey, Bale, Muller, Ronaldo, have all been anonymous so far, Spain have young side with exception of Busquets and his defensive role is as much about experience as mobility.

Yeah it's been the younger players who have stood out so far - Mbappe, Gakpo, Kudus, Rashford, Musiala etc.
Another interesting feature has been the lack of red cards. Only one so far.

In fairness, all bar De Bruyne from that list didn't have any form coming in to the World Cup, so I wouldn't put it down to the heat. Muller has been ok for Bayern, but the rest have been way off their best for quite some time.
Giroud is older than most of them and he's still looking sharp, as he has been for Milan this season. It's more a case that it's showing up players who aren't what they used to be.

Yeah and De Bruyne was refreshingly honest when asked to assess Belgium's chances. He basically said they had no chance because their key players were too old and the younger generation coming in to replace them aren't good enough! A bit harsh maybe. Trossard is surely a better option than Hazard now? Undoubtedly Hazard was a better player when at his peak but that's a long time ago.

A lot of people talking up Brazil's great attack. To me they're good but not great. Certainly nowhere near the levels of Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka etc...

Delighted for Argentina tonight, how they didn't score another 2 or 3 I just don't know, Poland were pathetic, so disappointing for Mexico against the Saudi's.
I think Mexico would have given France a great game, as it is Poland v France will be like a bad prem lge game of top v bottom.
Messi had so much time on the ball tonight and his vision is unreal, hope they go along way and that they wallop the Aussies next time out.
Hype is building in John Bulls land, the sooner they are out the better, Shearer and Wright are getting harder to listen too, if that was possible.
