The Sligo junior hurlers would put up a better performance against Clare. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3275 - 04/01/2025 21:08:17 2584644 Link 0 |

I don't think so. The suits in the IRFU have geared Leinster to be superior to Munster. Otherwise, why aren't top class Leinster players farmed out to inferior sides like Munster Connacht and Ulster, when Leinster arguably have more quality than they need. The IRFU could easily gear the provinces towards parity in quality terms, but they don't do so, and instead have geared Leinster to pole position.

IRFU have not singled out Leinster for greatness. The big advantage Leinster get from IRFU is more central contracts, think about 9/10 players from provience are on them. However, this is down to their production line of quality players, hard to blame Leinster for long term planning which led to this success. IRFU cannot force Leinster players to leave for another provience, as things stand who would blame them, they are coached by the best, play with the best and are well looked after within and outside rugby. Having said that the other three teams have many ex Leinster players in their squads. Population wise Leinster have an advantage, but put a lot of work in with clubs and schools across provience, not lip service, coaching, advice, financial and otherwise. Player movement has failed as often as it succeded and I dont think it is a long term solution. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2207 - 04/01/2025 23:48:24 2584659 Link 2 |
Lwinatee are ahead of other provinces because of their own good work not anything in irfu gearing anything towards the betterment of leinster ahead of the rest. Irfus high performance director has got some players to move province but players have to want to move and some don't and many have went abroad instead of to other provinces but there's been some who have moved. Carbery, jordi Murphy, cian prendergast just a small number of those who have moved. How many more and which players should be forced to move from leinster to other sides? Take a wild guess, see how you get on.

Obviously because my posting about certain facts leaves others with no recourse but to imply that i am racist. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3275 - 06/01/2025 14:53:08 2584789 Link 5 |
Doris is a Mayo man and should play for Connaught. However, because Leinster are successful, and Dublin has the best rugby nurseries, the players will gravitate to Leinster… trophies, money and fame!

Nonsense Doris as I'm sure you well know was schooled in Dublin. Do you know how many Leinster men are actually playing for Connacht? jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1308 - 09/01/2025 09:17:07 2585125 Link 0 |
Doris parents are dubs and apart from a couple of games for ballina in his teens he has played all his rugby in leinster clubs or schools. He boarded in Blackrock from age 12. He shouldn't play for connacht because of anything. KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3695 - 09/01/2025 09:25:21 2585128 Link 0 |
He's either from Ballina or he's not. His origins are no doubt used when arguing that rugby isn't south dublin centric. He can play for whoever he wants Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12228 - 09/01/2025 12:15:13 2585158 Link 0 |
There has been a fair sprinkling of players from Wicklow, Wexford, Carlow and Kildare, amongst others, playing for Leinster in recent years. Whereas there is still a big representation from the fee paying colleges, that's down to sheer numbers playing in these colleges. If a player is good enough, he will get onto the Leinster team. Other provinces do seem to have problems but, as other posters pointed out, that can hardly be placed at Leinsters door. A fair few top players for the other provinces began their careers with Leinster. One that jumps out is Andrew Conway.

The Mack Hansen ban is absolutely off the wall. Rugby authorities acting as if he assaulted someone and needs to undergo therapy. Mad stuff. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8208 - 09/01/2025 13:38:40 2585176 Link 1 |
It doesn't matter in rugby where your from, just look at 'national' teams There like a collection of fellas just living in a country att a particular time.

Ah yeah but mostly from South Dublin schools. There are probably more players from Leinster playing for the other provinces than there are playing for Leinster. It's a pro sport so ultimately it's irrelevant where they're from within Ireland

He basically called the referee a cheat, hardly off the wall to libel someone in that way and to go unpunished. Owen Doyle in The Irish Times called for strong action which a three game club ban hardly is. He's an international player, extremely well paid, he's a role model or meant to be. He's a lucky man not to be banned for Six Nations opening two games.
