Would that be the same PR system that didn't want to take over 13 billion from Apple or the same system that owes the US over 250 billion. If that's the case please hold onto it

Would that be a simplistic observation. Show many trillions make up the US national debt at the minute ?? And is it the Chinese who are holding those tabs ???

Yes China & Japan own 7% of the debt. Luckily they have the GDP to back it up somewhat. Who owns Irelands debt again ?

Replying To IronSleeve:  "Firstly, Trump didn't have a landslide victory, he got less than 51% of the vote.

Secondly, Trump has no interest per se in de-escalation, only if it suits him. He hasn't been banging the phone to Netanyahu to de-escalate.
Trump does have an inordinate interest in dictators and their modus operandi, particularly Putin who he is obviously in thrall to. Trump is a Russian asset and will be played easily by Putin.

Americans do indeed have a history of sticking their noses into things all over the world (as do the Russians of course). But like a stopped clock, they're right the odd time and Ukraine is one of those rare times, the only pity is that they didn't support the Ukrainians wholeheartedly from Day One."
I'm no expert on politics but from what I remember hearing Trump won every swing state, he won the popular vote by 3 million votes,(I think) he won the electoral college votes comfortably to be elected President.
The Republicans won a majority in both Houses, considering all the mud they threw at Trump and the Republicans I'd call that a fair oul landslide victory, not a massive landslide I'll grant you.
I never said Trump had any interest in de-escalating the Israeli genocide, I was saying he will try to de-escalate the war in Ukraine, the Democrats would have kept firing money and weapons at it, maybe even sent troops in who knows, Trump hopefully will bring a settlement there quickly before the whole thing blows up into a full blown war with NATO.

I agree with most if not all of your post but I'd like to point out that Harris raised over 1.2 Billion Dollars and yet her campaign is over $20 Million in debt! Trump has leftover money. Trump has the Presidency, both Houses, most Governorships, the Supreme Court leans Right, etc. MSNBC which is the most left wing "news" on TV in the USA seems to be up for sale and rumor has it ELON MUSK could buy it. The only States that Harris won were states that have NO VOTER ID. More bad news for Democrats: due to the population shift from BLUE STATES like NY, Illinois, California, etc to RED STATES like Texas, Florida, Idaho, etc the red states will pick up more seats and the blue states will automatically lose some.

If they gave all this GDP etc to pay it back, what is all this MAGA stuff that your pal is always on about. Is America great or is it not ?? To me they were and are great and we would all be speaking German but for their entrance into the last WW. This PR system has served us well, despite FF trying, I think it was twice in my lifetime, to have our constitution changed to clear the way for the single non - transferable voting system. Perhaps you could explain how this electoral college works and how it is good for democracy. Also, give us a run down on this Project 25 that many of Mr Ts ardent supporters are trying to fly, and how it might might serve democracy in your adopted country ?

The far right are forgetting that if hadn't been for the influx of immigrants over the centuries that we would never have eventually abandoned superstition. Nor would we be the English speaking magnet for Investment.

Not so sure about that WW2 observation. The RAF destroyed them and the Soviets had them on the ropes.

America entered to make a few propaganda videos when the war was won.

I sure can. Every one electoral collage vote represents approx 700,000 people per state. Example Massachusetts has 11 electoral collage votes for a population of approximately 7 + million. Does that explain it. It's pretty simple.
Anyway the Republicans won the popular vote by 5 million compared to losing it by 7 million in 2020. Up in every demograph.
You do realize that the Democrats have been in power for 12 of the last 16 years.
Anyway you don't have to live here so luckily it shouldn't affect your day to day.
I'll let you get back to your canvassing for what you believe in and party or independents that will satisfy you.

There you. Thankfully only a few oddballs think we had own language. Held us back for centuries before immigration from our neighbours.

You really need to do a bit of reading. Starting with Stalin Hitler Pact.

Seconly, the American support that allowed Stalin recover from gis catastrophic error.

For a start.

Lots of assumptions there, all wrong. But then, that's par for the course. And, no, I don't have to live in the states - do you have to live there, and if so, why? Actually, I am, as they say, in the departure lounge of life. No canvassing for anyone , any party or any policy. I have lived my whole life here in the country I love, with all its faults, electoral or otherwise. This little country has come a long way during my lifetime, and most of us living here are proud to call ourselves Irish. So, best of luck to you in your adopted country and I hope you enjoy all the bounties which your hero has promised to deliver. Hopefully, you can live the American dream, make your fortune and it will improve your disposition so you won't have to get involved in disparaging my countries electoral system or its national debt. Now, do have a nice day.

Britain was on the ropes on both fronts in early years of war. Japan swept all before them with little resistance from the British, and the Germans chased them all the way to Dunkirk, and devastated them in North Africa. The Americans gave Britain much needed aid, and with entry into the war turned the war against a formidable Japanese foe. The Russians broke the back of Germans at Stalingrad, and the Eastern front was a quagmire. On the contrary, Britain finished the war much poorer, and Churchill was only a bit player next to Roosevelt and Stalin. The demise of the British Empire was complete!

Project 25 if it is enacted will change America. Right now, immigrants are vilified on right wing TV stations like Fox News, and the New Year could see detention centers scattered around America. Right wing philosophy is sweeping across world, and even in Ireland, the anti immigration lobby is gaining momentum. A country which has sent immigrants for centuries to all parts of globe, resisting immigration to it's own country?

This contribution is a more accurate one of what actually happened. It just goes to show how facts can get watered down with the passing of time and being moulded to fit different narratives. Churchill expended a lot of time and energy trying to get the Americans involved. For him, Pearl Harbour couldn't have come at a better time in that it galvanised America' to support the was against Germany. This maybe a little simplistic but it is broadly accurate. Without American troops, and equipment, would DDay have happened? I think not. To this day, America is hailed in Holland, they maintain they wouldn't have survived another winter under occupation - and this is straight from a family who lived through those horrific few years. I have visited the American war grave cemeteries in Holland and the sight of those acres and acres of white crosses are a stark reminder of American commitment - and sacrifice. One outstanding memory for me of those visits was the sheer number of Irish surnames amongst those little crosses.

Good post! America is now a bitterly divided country with no sign of anything changing soon. Divide and rule as they say! Wealth does not bring happiness, especially when it is concentrated in the hands of the few, the elite on Wall Street, and billionaires

This is happening because our own elected representatives have failed to make any meaningful progress in solving the social issues we're facing. School places, healthcare and housing mainly. Irish people have proven ourselves again and again to be a compassionate people. Any perceived racism in this country is driven by scapegoating poverty and deprivation.

The argument of the Irish traveling the world has no credibility. We were abused and despised for centuries.
