There wasn't a housing crisis in the 90s because as a country we actually built quite alot of social/low cost/affordable housing in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Its what has happened since the beginning of the Celtic Tiger years that has caused the problems we now have.

80 % of the world are worse off than your average western employed person,, the same people pontificating about landlords wouldn't lift a finger to help those worse off than them.

I'm a postman and I bought my house in 2012 at the age of 26, after being mocked by many of my friends and peers for years for being careful with my money, (tight they called it), the same people were bringing in 8/900 a week at the time working trades and spent every penny of it, and some even got themselves into debt, and the same people are now blaming landlords for their predicaments.
I'm not a landlord yet but if I do decide to invest in a second property I won't be answering to the morality police, especially considering most of those same people would jump at the chance to own a second property.
Anybody could have done what I did.

Private schools, retirement homes, housing estates etc are generally of a higher quality than state sponsored ones, not saying that that's a good thing btw. It's unfortunate but it is what it is.

I've nothing against private landlords. They provide a service. The reason rents are unreasonably high isn't because of landlords. It's because of a chronic housing shortage.

Since 2007 what cost has Building Energy Rating added to used and new homes in Ireland? A lot of 'incentives' for buyers to buy new builds with green technology added but cost is very prohibitive.

So what you're saying is you're in a secure semi state enterprise with security, excellent pension and a definitive pay scale and were fortunate enough to buy a property at less than half of it's current value......

Those prices in 2012 were half what they are now, sure, but they were the same for everyone.

Yes it was the most competent display from an Irish team I've seen in a long time. We probably deserved to win it.

Szmodics looked very lively, and Ogbene had another good outing in the green shirt. Maybe just needs to tidy up his end product a bit. Ferguson is going through a little rut at the minute, but form is temporary and all that.

Robbie Brady was brilliant at left back. Great to see.

You were lucky. The market was on the floor in 2012. Try buying one now, it's a different story.

What you're not saying is that he made the right choices and put in the effort to get there, instead of sitting on his a*** and complaining that a house hasn't fallen into his lap yet.

Pretty much anyone who was 5/6 years on the workforce back then could have done it. Some of them chose not to work or work part time, others worked and chose to blow all of their money.

I agree, but the banks decide the lending rules,which are outrageous at the moment I admit ,, yet landlords are getting the blame.

Given that soccer people have been complaining so much about funding going to Casement Park they can stay well away as far as I am concerned.
I find it strange how the RTE article mentioned the Tailteann Games being played at Croke Park as if it something foreign. The Tailteann Games was the centre piece of Gaelic athletics. I bet in those ancient Tailteann Games the Ulster men reigned supreme.
