Fact? or are you being multiplicated? Here is the headline. Almost 20% in 2022 do not claim to be exclusively Irish or in 2022 12 % claim to be non-Irish. You chose the former and decided it was the latter. Now either you did not check the headlines or you want to deliberately misrepresent the headline to suit your own bias. The number of non Irish as a % is slightly lower than it was in 2011 so are we been overrun? So what is your problem with all of this? that Connolly or Pearse wouldn't have wanted it that way? how would you know what they would have wanted in todays society - the only thing they knew at the time was immigration they would never imagined an Ireland so prosperous that someone from outside it would ever want to come and live in it. Here is a stat for you 77% in 2022 identify as white Irish - does that make the other 4% fake Irish as they must have come to Ireland after Pearse and Connally dies and given all Pearse's guff about where the Irish came from etc these people wouldn't really be Irish now would they. Finally in the same way that Irish people who l have immigrated would attempted to hold onto their Irish identity as long as possible so too do the immigrants to this country - do you have a problem with that? zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1906 - 06/12/2023 07:37:16 2515688 Link 5 |

Paid to go holidaying around the globe. Stop giving more evidence you haven't a clue what you are talking about KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3695 - 06/12/2023 15:01:25 2515755 Link 0 |

Doyler I think you missed the point - it doesn't matter how they get here, could be by plane or container, the difference is what happens when they get here. Either claim protection - in which case they are ok or stay underground in which case they are illegal. I see the migrants rights center of Ireland says that there is between 20-26K undocumented migrants in the country but they believe that the majority of these entered legally and have been here for some time - they reckon 81% have been here for longer that 5yrs. Again the narrative that we are being overrun by illegal immigrants is put out there with no facts to back it up. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1906 - 06/12/2023 16:51:09 2515768 Link 0 |
Jus to be clear, I don't agree with the rhetoric of being overrun, but the pro side uses the same form of exaggerated nonsense which was perfectly demonstrated in how all the events in Dublin were reported. The refusal to acknowledge the nationality of the assailant, and pushing a fictional story of the real hero. This is all part of the problem. They were delighted to deflect to have the opportunity to talk about the riots instead. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3269 - 06/12/2023 18:46:35 2515785 Link 2 |
I can't remember where the last big climate crisis shindig was on last year I think it was, but I remember reading there was a record number of private jets there, they expect us to believe they are all so worried about the climate and the planet, makes me laugh, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3067 - 06/12/2023 21:59:40 2515798 Link 2 |
The truth always gets lost in the information wars. It may take some time for the truth to filter through and it may be that is a completely different narrative. Is this really a story about mental health, the stigma that is still attached to it and in particular for men? Of course that wouldn't be something that anyone wants to hear as it suits nobody. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1906 - 06/12/2023 23:20:44 2515811 Link 0 |
Yeah I wouldn't be too confident we'll get the global buy-in needed to tackle climate change sufficiently either. Like, if we in Ireland went totally green, and met all our targets would we really make an iota of difference? I'm not saying we shouldn't attempt to, but the big industrial bohemoths like the US, China, India etc will continue to do as they want if it means their economies remain strong. We'll just be ******* into the wind. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9542 - 07/12/2023 10:34:48 2515833 Link 1 |
Connacht rugby getting a dig out of 20 million euros from the FFg government. Not bad. Hope they do the same for GAA, but I doubt it. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2585 - 07/12/2023 11:18:55 2515841 Link 0 |
Navan, Newbridge and Waterford got extra money yesterday too. Hopefully Roscommon Co Board can get some in 2024 for the C of E and the Hyde. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2020 - 07/12/2023 12:03:16 2515851 Link 2 |
Multiple grounds in gaa also got assistance from the government but don't let that stop you with the conspiracy theories https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/19ec4-ministers-martin-and-byrne-announce-over-37-million-in-funding-to-major-sports-projects/ KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3695 - 07/12/2023 13:17:49 2515861 Link 0 |
The biggest impact Ireland could have is to put a motion to the EU parliament to boycott China, India, etc until they improve their means of manufacturing in line with climate targets. Won't happen. Too much to be lost by businesses in Europe (including Ireland) who import and export to these markets. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5215 - 07/12/2023 19:46:46 2515920 Link 2 |
Made all the more egregious when you take into account that it was only a few years ago many of the same people were telling us that riots are "the language of the unheard".

That's a horrible remark, making out that people should suffer for what their forefathers did,, perhaps we as Europeans should all suffer now for our continents past crimes? Where does that stupid logic end? Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 07/12/2023 22:02:07 2515931 Link 1 |
Any idea how they came up with those stats? I'm not necessarily disputing them but I find it almost impossible to believe that there are less non Irish people here now than in 2011. Living in Galway I would have guessed that the number has doubled or trebled. Writing down irish as your nationality on a form doesn't necessarily mean you consider yourself irish. And as much as there are people who want to come and live here, for various reasons, there are also many leaving here, so I wouldn't call ireland prosperous at all tbh. Half the people I grew up with have left (I'm 38). And if course immigrants should be entitled to hold onto their identity and celebrate it but most of those nations that the Irish among others emigrated to, and held onto their identity in like the states, Britain and Australia are racially and ethnically divided and the same will happen here. So much talk of a united Ireland on the non gaa forum but I predict that the peoples of this island will become more divided in the coming years.
