Replying To zinny:  "I get what you are trying to say however you are only benefiting a very small number of players by doing it and the downside is that standards drop for the other 12 and therefore the county team suffers overall. If there are players that are good enough in the lower grades then its up to the county management to make sure they are pulled into the setup like what happens in underage."
That would be great except me and you both know that that doesn't always happen Zinny. Certainly during my time since the early 90s there was a disproportionately large representation from the strongest hurling and football club or clubs at the time. Unless a lad was lights out brilliant it's very hard for someone to make an impression on intercounty management teams from Intermediate, Intermediate A or Junior clubs. And there are probably many best 3 or 4 players in teams at those grades who are naturally or technically better players than half the lads playing Senior, some of whom are only playing Senior because of where they were born. And improving because of the better coaching they receive and opponents they face as a consequence.

Replying To ExiledInWex:  "But wouldn't 4 x 4 groups reduce the number of games, and while players might prefer more games it isn't possible as long as the inter county game takes up 7 months of the calendar?
I could be reading you wrong Viking as I didn't see interview."
He said in the interview players prefer more games relative to training sessions. Not that they want more games than they have. He also said the current system also enabled lads to have more planned downtime from hurling or football which he was in favour of.

Replying To Pikeman96:  "On the thing about not entering teams in the Leinster Club Championships -

My understanding is it was a simple statement of fact that if:
- starting dates for the provincial championships aren't pushed back to later in the year,
- and we want to accommodate calls to continue with two groups of six but have extra weeks off in between matches,

then the only way we could manage that is take the nuclear option of accepting that we wouldn't be able to finish our county championships in time to have somebody represent Wexford in Leinster.

I don't believe it was put forward as a suggestion or recommendation."
Ah I see. It was just a reality being pointed out to lads who can't count! Fair enough!

Was talking to a lad who was down in Waterford watching our u14s. He reckoned the difference in matchday preparation, physios working with the subs to warm them up properly before they came on, and general attention to detail from management, even how quickly injured players were treated, was pretty big between ourselves and Tipp. Hopefully that's not a reflection on what's going on behind the scenes with our development squads.

No, I'd say its manager-specific.

Some lads are so organised, they'd have training schedules collated a couple or days in advance, have match day prep down to the minute and would make sure every base is covered.

Let's just say other lads think all you need is a heap of sliothars, bibs and a few cones.

Lol! Tbh the latter isn't really good enough for our club underage teams never mind intercounty underage development squads.

Yeah big congrats don't think chin deserved one but most definitely reck did and to me would push hard … even though I don't think he will get one.

While I'm a great fan of Chin…who wouldn't be…I think that he missed a lot of action this year to nail an AS. Stranger things have happened than Damien Reck being named no. 7 on the team.

I reckon that the goalie (Quaid) and the other 5 backs (Finn, Lawlor, Nash, Byrnes and Hannon) are nailed on, but no. 7 is up for grabs. Personally, I'd put Padraig Mannion there, but his teammate Fintan Burke, Reck and even Paddy Deegan are all in with a shout. Any one of the four could be named.

I doubt either Wexford player will get an All-Star.
Paddy Deegan will get half-back and I think the selectors will overlook the performance in the final to give it to him.

Of course I forgot to congratulate both on their All-Stars.
A great personal achievement.
